Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Selection Criteria
The following criteria will be used to select students for the Associate in Science Degree for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Admission to this program is limited to applicants selected by the admission process. Twelve students will be admitted into the program each year. Florida residents and U.S. citizens have priority over non-residents.
All applicants must:
- Complete the pre-requisite course with a grade of “C” or higher.
- View the career video and review the Student Handbook
- Submit documentation to support any professional certification and/or professional license. (see attached information)
- Submit the names of three (3) references. (see attached information)
The Collegewide Health Science Program Admission Committee uses the following point system to GUIDE them in the selection of qualified students to be admitted to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Points accumulated from the selection of students are not based solely on the number of points earned. No guarantee or probability on admission can be made to any student, regardless of the points accumulated.

IV. General Education Component Completion (Maximum of 8 points)
- HSC 1531- Medical Terminology
- ENC 1101- Freshman Composition
- PSY 1012 - General Psycology
- Elective - Any Humanities or Fine Arts
Two (2) points for each course completed with a minimum of "C" and
One (1) will be awarded for each course currently enrolled at the time of application.
V. Completion of all General Education courses listed in Sections III and IV with a 2.5 GPA or higher by end of Session 2 (Spring term). (8 points)
VI. Certifications, Work Experience or Tech Prep (Maximum of 5 points)
Points may be earned for ONLY ONE of the following areas. Documentation will be required to verify.
A. Certification or registry in one of these imaging or therapy professions: Radiation Therapy RT(T), Radiology Technologist RT(R), Nuclear Medical Technologist (NMT), Cardiovascular Technology (RCVT).
Certification in one of these health professions: Nurse (RN), Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT), Respiratory Care Technologist (RRT), Basic X-Ray Machine Operation (BXMO), or a graduate of a 600 hour state vocational institution.

B. Health care experience with direct patient contact (by approval of program director)
