Selection Criteria

RESPIRATORY CARE SELECTION CRITERIA

The college-wide Health Science Admission Committee uses the following point system to GUIDE them in the selection of qualified students to be admitted to the Respiratory Care Program.

III. General Education Component Completion

  • ENC 1101  Freshman Composition I

Two (2) points for each course completed with minimum of C”

One (1) point for each if currently enrolled

 IV. Completion of all courses listed in sections II and III with a 2.0 GPA or higher (8 Points)

 

V. Work Experience or Tech Prep. 

Points awarded for only one listed if applicable:
  • Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner-current certification required (5 points)
  • On the job trained Respiratory Assistant - (min. 1 yr. experience letter from employing institution) (3 points)
  • Tech Prep-documentation on high school transcript (2 points)

VI. Additional Courses

  • VCC’s “Professions of Caring” Course - HSC 1004 (3 points)
  • Medical Terminology - HSC 1531 (3 points)
