Selection Criteria

The College-wide Health Science Programs Admission Committee uses the following point system to GUIDE them in the selection of qualified students to be admitted to the Dental Hygiene Program. (maximum of 35 possible points)

  I. Grade Point Average - Dental Hygiene curriculum General Education Courses

III. General Education (1 point for each course completed with a “C” or better)

  • HUN 2202 Essentials of Nutrition with Diet Therapy

  • SPC 1600  Fundamentals of Speech

  • PSY 1012  General Psychology

  • SYG 2000  Introduction to Sociology

  • Elective     Any Humanities or Fine Arts

 

IV.Completion of all Dental Hygiene courses listed in section III with a 2.5 GPA or higher by application deadline. (5 Points)

 

V. Dental Assisting Education/Certification/Work Experience

Graduate of an ADA Accredited Dental Assisting Program (2 points)

AND/OR

Certified Dental Assistant with Current certification; All 3 parts (1 point) 

OR

On the job trained dental assistant;Min 30 hrs/wk for 12 consecutive months (1 point)

 

VI.Other (1 Point)

Tech Prep (Documentation of high school transcript)

OR

HSC 1531 Medical Terminology taken at VCC

OR

HSC 1004 Professions of Caring
