Admissions Criteria
DENTAL HYGIENE ADMISSION CHECKLIST
The following are minimum requirements for consideration for admission into the Dental Hygiene Program. Applicants are admitted once a year and are limited to those individuals selected by the Collegewide Health Sciences Programs Admission Committee
1._____ Florida residency by deadline date of February 1st (See http://valenciacc.edu/admissions.)
2. _____ Students must submit a completed College Application for Admission by the College Application Deadline and meet the college admission requirements for degree seeking students. College entry level assessments, Computerized Placement Tests (CPT), and all mandatory courses in reading, student success, mathematics, English and English for Academic Purposes must be completed prior to submitting the Program Application. 3. _____ Dental Hygiene General Education Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher at the time of application.
4. _____ Students must complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) prior to the Dental Hygiene application with a TEAS Composite Score of 75% and a Composite Reading Score of 75%. Students must have a Valencia College Application on file to test in the Valencia Assessment Office. Examination fee is the responsibility of the student. Cost is $40.
5._____ Completion of prerequisite courses with a minimum of “C”:
- Microbiology (MCB 2010C)
- Anatomy & Physiology I (BSC 2093C)
- Anatomy & Physiology II (BSC 2094C)
- Freshman Composition (ENC 1101)
6._____ A $15 non-refundable application fee (check or money order payable to Valencia Community College) must be submitted to the Business Department (SSB 101) with each application. Submit completed application to the Dental Hygiene Program by the Feb. 1st. deadline
to the Health Science Advising Office located on the West Campus in Building 2, room 208
NOTE:
Students accepted into the Dental Hygiene program must have a background check completed before starting classes. Applicants must be free of offenses that would disqualify them from a student clinical experience in a health care setting and must have their civil rights intact.
Each applicant must have a Social Security Verification, Residency History, Nationwide Sexual Offense Registry search, Nationwide Healthcare Fraud/Abuse Scan, and a US Patriot Act/OFCA search. A Nationwide Criminal Search is also required if the applicant has worked, resided, or has been a student outside of Florida during the 2 year period prior to the start of any Health Science Program. The cost of the background check is the responsibility of the student. The current fee is $49.00; the Nationwide Criminal Search is an additional $10.00 if needed.
