Computer Access Lab

Internet Use

The Computer Access Lab offers Internet access to enable students to complete assignments, enhance course work, and learn to use the Internet. Students agree to comply with the general Computer Access Lab guidelines and procedures, the Valencia Community College Computer policies which are available at http://valenciacc.edu/itpolicies, and the Valencia Community College Student Conduct policies which are available at: http://valenciacc.edu/policies/policycontents.asp#Students

ACCEPTABLE USE

  • Course related work takes precedence over personal use of the labs Internet and email systems.
  • Uploading and emailing files to professors.
  • Downloading files, programs, etc. to your own media. Media may be purchased in the bookstore.

UNACCEPTABLE USE

  • Logging in with a VID number that does not correspond to the currently enrolled user.
  • Personal use is not permitted between the hours of 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Monday thru Friday.
  • Downloading or installing files, programs, etc. to any lab hard or network drive.
  • Making changes to computer hard drives, desktops, etc. Any student who makes changes to any computer hard drive will be suspended from the computer lab.
  • Displaying images, sound or text that disrupts or creates an atmosphere of distress or harassment of other Lab users.
  • Committing illegal or unethical acts, including unauthorized entry (“hacking”) into other computers.
  • Using the Computer Access Lab computers for commercial purposes.
  • Chat rooms; unless a faculty member makes prior arrangements.
  • All forms of computer games, gambling or other games of chance.
  • Violating software license agreements, copyright laws and fair use provisions through inappropriate reproduction or dissemination of licensed or copyrighted text, images, etc. CONSIDER EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET TO BE COPYRIGHTED OR LICENSED.

By logging on to a computer in the Computer Access Lab, you automatically agree to abide by the stated procedures.

All Internet and network use is subject to logging/monitoring.
