Q = Can I do Weight Watchers and Body for Life
at the same time?
A = The answer is yes, you can. Weight Watchers
is a great program which focuses on healthy eating habits and encourages
individuals to get moving. Body for Life is a structured 12 week
fitness and nutrition program where challengers compete against
themselves to get into the best shape of their lives. You can easily
fit your Weight Watchers eating plan into your Body for Life program.
Body for Life is not meant to replace Weight Watchers in any way.
They can easily be worked together to help you achieve your nutrition
and weight loss goals.
Q = Can I go to the East Fitness Center to have
my blood pressure measured?
A = Yes, you can go to the East Fitness Center
anytime and ask one of the staff members to take your blood pressure
reading. We even have a log sheet for you to keep track of your
readings on.
Q = Is the Fitness Center open to all faculty
and staff?
A = Yes, any Valencia employee can use the Fitness
Centers. Just come in to the East or West campus Fitness Centers
and fill out a Health History Questionairre first. We have exercise
logs you can use to track your progress.
Q = Is the Fitness Center open to all students?
A = Students can take one of two courses we offer
in the Fitness Center, Fitness and Wellness for Life - 3 credits
or Weight Training - 2 credits. They are excellent courses to learn
how to eat right and exercise correctly. Classes are offered during
the day or evening.
Q = Can a faculty/staff member join in a wellness
class offerring at any time during the semester?
A = Yes, just show up a few minutes before the
class, fill out a health questionaire and join in the fun!
Q = Can a faculty/staff member receive instruction
on how to use the equipment in the East or West campus Fitness Centers?
A = Yes. Please contact the Fitness Center ahead
to set up a time to come in. On East campus, contact Debi Jakubcin
at x2281 and on West campus contact Dave Jones at x1443.
Q = Can I have my body fat analyzed or a fitness
evaluation?
A = Yes, just contact the East campus Fitness
Center ahead and schedule a time. As part of the Wellness Program,
we will be arranging times in the future to come out to campuses
for the day to do fitness evaluations for those who are interested.
Q = What should I wear to work out?
A = A general rule is to wear comfortable clothing.
Breathable, non-binding fabric such as cotton is best. You should
also wear comfortable, rubber-soled shoes. Tank tops are not allowed
in the fitness center.
Q = Should I talk to my doctor before exercising?
A = It is always a good idea to talk to your doctor
before starting an exercise program, especially if you have not
been active in a while.
