Collegewide Staff Council Meeting

East Campus

February 7, 2002

MINUTES

Present:          Amy Alonso (EAC), Joanna Branham (WPC), Ann Whetstone (OSC) Debi Jakubcin (EAC), Carol Janz (WEC),  Patty Nicholas (DTC), Kristen Smuder (WEC), Stan Stone (Presiding), Lorraine Whipple (DTC)

Amy Alonso was introduced and welcomed to the meeting.  She is now serving as vice president of East Campus= Staff Council.  Debi Jakubcin is now president.

Ann Whetstone was also introduced and welcomed.  She is currently serving as vice chair of the Osceola Campus Staff Council.  Ed Holmes, who was serving as chair, recently accepted a staff position at East Campus.

Dr. Stone gave an opportunity for each of the council representatives to share how their respective councils are doing, and to discuss any problems that needed to be addressed.

Debi Jakubcin shared a copy of a brochure her Staff Council has prepared to be distributed to all new and current Career Staff employees on the East Campus.  The suggestion was made that the brochure could be adapted by other Staff Councils by just changing some of the wording.

Ann Whetstone shared several campus issues that have been raised at the Osceola Campus.  Council members made several recommendations of how to address and resolve the issues, and Ann thanked members for their suggestions.  She would share theme with Dr. Zapico and the involved departments.

Lorraine Whipple reported that the Board of Trustees approved the revisions to Policy 6Hx28:09-12 Career Service Personnel Grievances at its November 21, 2001 meeting.  The changes allowed for each campus/location to have a representative and alternate on the committee.

Joanna Branham also presented a draft of a brochure that Winter Park staff was working on which incorporated many aspects of the Career Employees Council=s brochure of Florida Community College at Jacksonville.  This brochure focused on the purpose, mission and objectives of the collegewide council, rather than individual campus councils.  Council members agreed that this type of brochure would be an ideal informational piece to give to all new Career Service employees during their New Employee Orientation.  Joanna indicated she would complete the draft by the next meeting and distribute for input.

Carol Janz reported on several items that the West Campus Staff Council has raised and is researching.

Lorraine presented a sample chart to the council of how the collegewide issues raised at the campus councils could be consolidated into one list in order to keep better track of the issues, and as a more professional method of presenting the issues to the Executive Council.  Council reps made recommended changes and approved the concept.  Lorraine asked that each council review its past minutes for issues to be included on the collegewide list and submit them to her.

Dr. Stone suggested that the council consider electing a co-chair to share the responsibility of leading the meetings, especially when he is unable to attend.  The group was in agreement with this suggestion, and Lorraine Whipple was nominated and elected to serve as co-chair.

The next meeting of the Collegewide Staff Council is scheduled for April 4, 2002 at the Downtown Center.
