April
4, 2002
MINUTES
Present: Amy Alonso (EAC), Joanna Branham (WPC), Debi Jakubcin
(EAC), Patty Nicholas (DTC), Kristen Smuder (WEC), Stan Stone (Liaison),
Lorraine Whipple (DTC)
Absent: Carol Janz (WEC), and Ann Whetstone (OSC)
Lorraine
welcomed everyone to the Downtown Center.
Lorraine explained how strongly she feels about how the Career Council
is perceived. The group discussed this
and everyone agreed that we want to be seen as a proactive, thinking group that
deserves to be empowered and valued.
Those representing the Career Council at other meetings should state
comments in a positive manner, and be prepared with a plan or solution when
bringing up issues. The Council officers
would like the college to see that we can bring change. This information should be shared with all
representatives on each campus.
The implied separation of
faculty and staff was discussed. Issues
such as the parking decals reading AFaculty/Staff@
and that faculty are tenured and have a sense of security in their jobs that
staff does not have.
The issue of communication was
discussed. We must be certain that
issues and their status are shared with the college.
Dr. Stone mentioned that he
would like the Career Council officers to attend an Executive Council meeting.
Lorraine distributed a compiled
list of collegewide issues from all the campuses. The issues were grouped into the following
categories: Compensation, Benefits, Professional Development, Technology,
Security, Student, Procurement, and Miscellaneous. The group decided to list completed items on
a separate page and to arrange pending issues by date order. A decision was made to review each of the
issues to determine Anext steps.@ However, due to time restraints, it was
decided to meet again on Thursday, April 11, (8:30 a.m. on the East Campus in
Dr. Stone=s office) to continue the
review and discussion of the issues.
Joanna distributed copies of
the brochure Winter Park employees are creating for the Career Council
collegewide. She requested input and suggestions
from other council members.
Amy is going to adapt the East
Campus Staff Council web page to a web page for the Career Council
collegewide.
The meeting was adjourned at
11:00 a.m.
