Absent:           Bunnie Jackson (EAC), Jenny Nevarez (OSC)

Welcome/Introductions

Stan welcomed the group and introductions were made.

Why Are We Here?

Stan stated that he has been asked by Dr. Shugart and the Executive Council to be the administrative liaison for the Staff Council.  Fifteen minutes of each Executive Council will be devoted to Staff Council concerns with him leading the discussion.  Stan asked that the officers share with those they represent that their issues are being heard and discussed at the appropriate levels.  Responses will be made in writing from the location administrator for campus concerns and from the Executive Council regarding collegewide concerns.

Review of Staff Council Minutes

It was agreed that minutes would be shared among the chairs and vice chairs of the five locations, the respective membership, the location administrator, and Stan as administrative liaison.

Stan will prepare a master list separating collegwide concerns from location concerns for presentation to the Executive Council and Dr. Shugart.

Thoughts/Comments

Carol Janz shared that the West Campus has implemented a AGrapevine Award@ as a recognition of staff members who go beyond the call of duty.

Janice Wentworth suggested the development of a web site bulletin board where ideas/comments could be posted and then discussed if appropriate at the next Staff Council.

Lorraine Whipple expressed that the DTC Staff Council is sincerely expecting results.

Dr. Stone shared that he would be glad to come to a location meeting if invited and agreed that concerns must be addressed at the appropriate level.

Patty Nicholas shared that a place on Valencia=s web page would be a good place to air issues (instead of via -email as all noted last week.)

Joanna Branham reported that employees at the Winter Park Campus do not want a Agripe session,@ but do want to know that their concerns have been heard.

Lorraine Whipple indicated that the DTC meetings are a time of business as well as a time of fun with a Atheme@ for each meeting.

Joanna Branham shared that those who attend the WPC meetings do take back information to staff who cannot attend, and that their council members truly represent their co-workers.

Sloan Reece thanked everyone for their enthusiasm, stating that she liked the emphases on Awriting@ instead of the usual hearsay, and felt like the council was Aright on track.@

Debi Jakubcin asked if reasons could be given regarding those issues that generated a Ano@ response and Stan answered, Ayes.@

Carol Janz shared that West Campus has 17 council members who represent all levels of the career staff.  If a designated person could not attend, he/she was asked to send a representative from the respective group.

Debi Jakubcin asked if the group would like to talk with a person from another college who has been successfully involved in Staff Council at their institution for years to share what works, and does not work, etc.  All indicated they would appreciate hearing from someone who has done this successfully.  Debi has made a contact through FACC in Jacksonville and will follow up on this.

Next Meeting

The date selected was June 21, 2001, at 10 a.m. in Room 246 at the Winter Park Campus.  Joanna will make arrangements for the room and Stan will provide lunch.
