Subject: Vice President for Planning and Educational Services
With Dr. Hooks' impending retirement, I have been contemplating and discussing with many of you the future directions for the division and its leadership. I am ready now to share some decisions and thoughts.
1. I will reorganize the division effective October 27 as the Division of Student Affairs. This will provide a structure with more focus on serving our students, strengthening our operational systems, and continuing the trail-blazing work of making all of our systems support student learning and success. The pioneering work in the division is vital and should continue, but the "supply lines" have become a little too thinly stretched, as well. Some time and attention to reduce the stresses of change will be needed.
2. Institutional Research will be reassigned to report to Dr. Edwards in Academic Affairs, a move intended to signal our efforts toward evidence of learning.
3. Planning will be reassigned to Susan Kelley, VP of Institutional Advancement and she will assume responsibility for co-chairing the College Planning Council, as well. Susan has strong planning and facilitation skills and this will provide a stronger connection between resource development, budgeting, and planning.
4. Dr. Joyce Romano will assume the responsibilities of Interim Vice President for Student Affairs. She has both breadth and depth in the field, an incomparable work ethic, and my full confidence to lead and speak for student affairs. My thanks to her for her willingness to take on this work. We will also arrange for interim leadership in the Assistant Vice President position she will be leaving.
5. We will commence a search for a Vice President of Student Affairs in January with a national advertisement, college screening committee, etc. Look for details coming from Human Resources soon. TOP |
