Subject: Update July 18, 2002

1. I know you will all join me in welcoming Dr. Tracy Edwards, our new CLO. Tracy is completing her first week at Valencia and has already been on the campuses greeting and listening to many of you. She brings great energy, insight, experience, and imagination to her work. Hope she can handle the Florida heat!

2. In a related matter, some organizational adjustments attend Tracy's arrival. As planned, the Provosts will now report to the CLO on a daily basis and Dr. Edwards will serve as their team leader to better align our efforts toward increasing student learning. It remains vital for me to stay connected to the Provosts, to hear directly from them, consult them on decisions, and stay connected to campus life and I will do so.

3. Also in the office of academic affairs, in a natural evolution of the position, the Director of Curriculum Development, Teaching , and Learning (Ann Puyana) is being retitled Assistant Vice President for CDTL. This parallels Joan Tiller's role in workforce programs, acknowledges the substantial contributions of the office to our work, and solidifies Ann Puyana's leadership role in the college. Also in her office, we are accelerating the transition of the Faculty Development Coordinator position (Pat Nellis) from Title III to college funds, signaling our institutional commitment to the role.

4. Finally, I know you will join me in offering our deep, sincere thanks to Ann Puyana for her remarkable service as the Interim CLO these past two years. It is a demanding role and she has performed exceptionally well leaving a legacy of progress, trust, thoughtful listening, and creative support to the faculty and staff.
