Subject: Hurricane Wilma Update

Hurricane Wilma has been difficult to predict, and even harder for us to anticipate in terms of her impact on our campuses. The college’s senior leadership met this morning and have recommended that we continue with our normal schedule of classes and activities for the weekend. This means that all Saturday and Sunday classes will go on as scheduled; our libraries will maintain their normal weekend hours; and any other activities on our campuses will go on as planned.

Please note that the senior administration will meet again on Sunday morning to evaluate the latest forecasts and determine the appropriate course of action for the beginning of the week. The best way for you to stay informed is to monitor the College’s new emergency website, http://valenciacc.info. This website is hosted in another part of the country, away from the effects of the hurricane, and will be updated regularly if it appears that Hurricane Wilma will affect the Orlando area. The college’s main telephone number, 407-299-5000, will also have updated operational information. Any updates as a result of our weekend meeting will be posted by 10:30 a.m. Sunday, October 23.

Finally, please take the following precautions in your work area when you prepare to leave for the weekend: Power off all computer and office equipment (do not unplug it); close all interior doors and windows, and lower the blinds. Thank you for your attention to these details.
