Subject: Governor to Visit West Campus

For many months, my colleagues and I have worked with the Governor and his staff to shape the future funding for the community college system. I have been greatly encouraged by his understanding of our issues and his passion for our mission. Although the recession has challenged the state's finances, we have avoided the draconian cuts that have effected many other states. Meanwhile, the Governor has pledged to find ways to invest in our system of colleges, fund the backlog of unfunded enrollment, and position us to serve the strong student demand for an education.

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 15, Governor Bush will visit West Campus to make an important announcement in this regard. His press conference will be in our LRC on West Campus around 1:15 PM. Of course, there will be many local dignitaries present, but we have taken some pains to assure that student leaders, faculty, and others will get to witness the events. This will be an important day for the future of Valencia, the community college system, and our current and future students. Watch for further details.
