Office for Students with Disabilities

Services

Services are provided on a case-by-case basis and are dependent upon the impact of the student's disability. The individual is encouraged to disclose to the OSD and provide the necessary documentation. While personal services and personal aides cannot be provided, reasonable accommodations will be arranged to assist a student with a disability based on a plan to be developed by the student and the Office of Students with Disabilites. Such services may include testing accommodations, alternate text formats, and other reasonable classroom and learning strategies.

Services Include:

  • Educational advising and planning
  • Career advising and planning
  • Assistance with classrooma ccommodations such as note takers, readers, scribes, sign languauge interpreters, and alternate testing formats
  • Instructor contact letters and liason with faculty to arrange accommodations
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services
  • Assistive Technology
  • Liason with community agencies such as the Division of Rehabilitative Services
  • Assistance with admission, course selection and registration
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Services

    The Role of the Office for Students with Disabilities
  • Determines reasonable accommodations for qualified students with documented disabilities.
  • Provides support staff on each campus to work with students to determine appropriate accommodations and arrange support services.
  • Assists the College to comply with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Assists in the development of self-advocacy and self-determination skills.
  • Maintains and protects the confidentiality of student records as required by law.

Students are encouraged to apply for services at least four weeks prior to the start of classes. The Office for Students with Disabilities cannot guarantee that accommodations will be available on the first day of class for those students who do not request services at least four weeks ahead, however, students have the right to request services at any time during the semester.
