Learning Technology Centers

West Campus LTC

The Learning Technology Center (LTC) would like to welcome you to the Valencia Community and take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We are a resource dedicated to the support of West Campus faculty and staff and their continued use of the "tools of technology" for the enhancement of classroom instruction.

Faculty can use the lab's resources to try out software and hardware, learn new applications, and develop course materials. It's easier than you might think. Perhaps you're interested in putting your syllabus online, or creating PowerPoint presentations to augment your lectures and replace your old overheads. No matter how modest or ambitious your envisioned project may be, the LTC is here to help. Whether you have an entire project outlined, or you just want to know what's possible, the first step is to contact us. You can come by the center, call or email. From there, we'll work with you to figure what technology is appropriate and how to implement it. We can train you to use new software and point you to various learning resources; the LTC also has a library of "how to" books.

So, I urge you to explore the potentials of "new media." Even the creation of a simple online syllabus can create new opportunities and new ways to deliver old material. Feel free to come by the LTC and discuss your ideas, opinions, and reservations. I'd be glad to show you some of the software and equipment we have available. In many ways, this is the beginning of a new era and we are the ones who will define and guide its future path. I hope, then, that I can make your experience of incorporating technology with teaching not intimidating and frustrating, but rather invigorating and exciting.

Community

Part of our mission at the Center is to keep you in contact with others throughout our learning community that are trying new research projects and active learning projects in the classroom. We work to connect you with others who are performing similar tasks and establish communities of learning leaders throughout the institution. Below are postings from Weblogs from other instructors so you can establish these communities even while away from the office and even the campus.

Atlas Discussion Groups for Faculty

There are a number of discussion groups available through Atlas which can be beneficial to you as a teaching faculty.

Link to Atlas: http://atlas.valenciacc.edu

Login to Atlas and then click on the Groups button. There are a variety of faculty groups to review and join. Read the descriptions on the groups page for more information.

All faculty and staff may use the LTC during LRC operating hours. (Please see schedule above.) Assistance with software and/or hardware, or instructional design should be scheduled in advance with staff. Students working with faculty may request the use of the LTC if resources are not available elsewhere.
