Library Instruction Services

West Campus librarians teach over 300 Library Instruction sessions per year! Bring your classes for library instruction:

  • Tailored for specific course and assignment
  • Emphasis on critical thinking and information literacy skills
  • Hands-on training for library resources on networked workstations
  • Professor's attendance preferred
  • Instruction maximizes student success on assignments

Linking to the Library

Want to embed the library in your online or hybrid course? Or just provide "one-stop shopping" for students to find important and relevant online information resources for your course?

The library offers the following areas on our web page to help you:

  • Course Guides are directories to library resources, tutorials and links relevant to specific courses or disciplines.
  • Professors' Picks are pages of links to reliable, credible web sites of interest to students for your particular courses or assignments.

Librarians will work with you individually to develop course guides or professor's picks for your course. Once the page is created, just add the link to WebCT or your course homepage!

Course Reserves

To place materials on Reserve for your students, please bring the materials to the Check-Out Desk (1st floor). To place library materials temporarily on Reserve, please contact your library liaison.

  • Varying check-out periods are available at your request.
  • Audio Tape duplication is available (with permissions).

Accessing Library Resources

Faculty & Staff Borrowing Privileges

Checkout terms for Faculty & Staff

  • Books - Four weeks
  • DVD / Videos in Circulation (6-201) - Three weeks
  • DVD / Videos (Check-Out Desk, 1st floor) - Check-out as needed, to faculty and staff only. Please contact Instructional Support Services.
  • Journals & Reference materials - Short term checkout available
  • Holds and Renewals are allowed.
 

Reciprocal Borrowing

The West Campus Library has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the following libraries that allows you to check out materials from these libraries:

  • UCF & other state university libraries
  • All 28 community college libraries
  • All four Valencia campus libraries

Professional Collection

The professional collection is available in the Learning Technology Center on West Campus (6-326A). This collection contains books, CDs and software that support professional development. Materials in the professional collection do not circulate to students.

 

 

Access to Online Library Resources

Remote access to the library's online resources are available from home or office.

  • The Library Catalog (LINCCWeb) is accessible from any location.
  • Remote access to the Library Databases is available by logging in with your active Borrower ID (found on the back of your Valencia Photo ID) and PIN number.
 

Important Updates!

  • New Valencia ID Cards issued August 12, 2008 and after use the VID number as the Borrower ID. The VID number appears on the back of all new Valencia ID Cards.
  • The default PIN is the last four digits of your VID number. Returning users may still use the last four digits of your social security number.

Please fill out and submit a New Library Materials request form online. Please contact your librarian Division Liaison with any questions.

Requesting New Databases

New databases are purchased by consensus of all campuses.
Please contact your department Dean, who will then forward the information to their campus Library Director by a deadline date each September.



Other Services in Building 6

  • Adjunct Resource Center
Workstations are available for use by Adjunct Faculty members in 6-326. Each workstation contains PC with network connection and telephone, and access to a print and copy station.
 

The Learning Technology Center is located in 6-326. Part of the Learning Technology and Alternative Delivery (LTAD) department, the LTC is a place faculty can use to access and learn about the variety of teaching and learning software that is available.
