EBSCO Databases Get a New Look

Several library databases on the EBSCOhost platform, including Academic Search Complete, Biography Collection Complete, Business Source Complete, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Education Research Complete, ERIC, Health Source: Consumer and Academic Editions, History Reference Center, Hospitality & Tourism Complete, Humanities International Complete, Literary Reference Center, Medline with Full Text, PsycArticles and others will have a new and improved interface in July 2008.

Beta version is now available for testing! "Test Drive" the new interface by accessing Academic Search Complete. You will need to log in with your library Borrower ID and PIN. Once connected, click on New Features (in red, at the top of the screen). Under EBSCOhost 2.0 Beta, click Test Drive. Then, select the database you want to try.

Library Hosts Get Into Reading Guest Speaker - Judge Emerson R. Thompson, Jr. discussed connections between Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and issues of race, gender and economic status in today's society with a room full of West Campus students on Thursday, March 13. The event was a perfect capstone to discussions of the classic novel held over the past several weeks as part of the Get Into Reading program.

EIGHT statewide, PLUS an additional NINE New Valencia-Only e-Resources effective January 1, 2008! New resources included Academic Search Complete, African-American Experience, Biography Collection Complete, Business Source Complete, COIN Career Library, ARTstor, Issues: Understanding Controversy and Society, Points of View Reference Center, Literary Reference Center, MEDLINE with Full Text, Nursing and Allied Health Database, Nursing Reference Center and MORE! Resources funded statewide for the first time include Education Research Complete and Science Resource Center.

West Campus Gets Into Reading! West & Winter Park Campus Libraries, Faculty and Student Development assigned and promoted The Kite Runner, the bestselling novel by Khaled Hosseini, with events, activities, discussions and even a promotional viewing of the new film.
 
West Library Celebrates Banned Books Week! West Campus Library celebrated Banned Books Week September 29 - October 5, 2007.
 
Dr. Nikki Giovanni Speaks at West Campus Library! Poet and author Nikki Giovanni, a guest of Visions and Voices Distinguished Artist series, spoke to an overflowing crowd at West Campus Library.
 
PIN Numbers Change to Last 4 Digits of VID. All newly assigned PIN #s for logging in to online library resources are now the last four digits of your VID number.

West Campus Library Hosts Visions & Voices Artist, North Carolina Poet Laureate Fred ChappellJanuary 25, 2007 - Mr. Fred Chappell, author of 14 books of poetry, eight novels and two short story collections, gave a poetry reading at the library as part of Valencia's Visions and Voices Distinguished Artist Series. Mr. Chappell was named North Carolina Poet Laureate in 1997.

Library Hosts Visions & Voices Artist Julianna Baggott! September 14, 2006 - Ms. Julianna Baggott gave two readings at the West Campus Library as part of the Visions and Voices Distinguished Artist Series. Ms. Baggott is a poet and the author of several novels including Girl Talk, as well as children's books including The Anybodies trilogy.
