FAQ's
These are the most common equipment issues
Q. When the computer and the projector is turned on, nothing
appears on the screen.
A. Make sure the correct input is selected on the
projector. If it isn’t, cycle through the settings until a
picture appears on the screen.
Q. The projector will not come on.
A. Make sure the main switch is in the on position.
Q. The sound portion of the PowerPoint program will not play.
A. Always copy the PowerPoint file and any associated
sound file when you transfer your presentation from the computer
it was created on to another computer. The pack and go command can
be used to effectively to accomplish this. You can also create a
directory and place both files in the directory.
Q. The PowerPoint file will not play.
A. This could result from a number of factors. If the PowerPoint
file was created in a
version other than the one you are trying to run it in, it may not open. Use
the power
point 97-2002 & 95 presentation option when you save your file. Another
problem
can arise when you burn your presentation to a CD-RW. These CDs do not transfer
between computers as well as CD-R types. Always use CD-R disc when you make
your final copy of your PowerPoint program.
Q. When I hook up a laptop to a data projector, nothing appears on the
screen.
A. Make sure the correct output is selected on the laptop.
Use the FN key together with
the F8 key to cycle through the three settings (Image on computer
screen/No image
from data projector, No image on computer screen/Image from projector, Image
on
computer screen/ Image from projector).
Q. The CD/DVD player will not recognize the CD disc.
A. The CD could contain files that are MP3 format or a CD-RW disc
was used. Some
CD/DVD players do not recognize MP3 format.
Q. The remote will not turn off the data projector.
A. Hold the ON/STANDBY (the label will vary depending on the remote)
button down
for at least two seconds. If necessary, move the position of the remote to
a different
position while pointing it at the data projector. Stay within a range of 30
degrees left
and right. In some cases, the remote can be pointed at the screen to turn off
the
projector.
Q. A message appears stating that the bulb life is almost
used up when the projector is
first turned on.
A. This message should go away after a few seconds. At that
time, you can use the data
projector as normal. However, please inform the AV Department at ext. 1488
of this
message as soon as possible.
Q. No sound is reproduced through the speakers in electronic/smart classrooms
A. Make sure the data projector and amplifier are turned on. Turn
up the volume level of both units until the sound level is acceptable. If either unit’s volume
level is turned
off, the sound from the media will not be heard.
Q. The user’s common drive is not accessible.
A. In order for the common drive to be accessible, the user must
login with their
Username and Password. Clcik the I-Drive icon on
the desktop and enter your login information. The network drive
will appear under 'My Computer', don't forget to either logout or
reboot the computer after use to diconnect the network drive.
