Get Into Reading is Valencia's Community Read program that began in Fall 2007 with The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Modeled on a national initiative called The Big Read, its goal is to get Valencia "Into" Reading while promoting community through themed events and more! Get Into Reading is the result of a partnership between West and Winter Park Campus Student Development, West and Winter Park campus libraries, the Communication department and faculty collaboration across disciplines. This Spring, Get Into Reading is partnering with the Orange County Library System in their Big Read of To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Get Into Reading seeks to engage our campus community in dialogue and bring us together by promoting tolerance and understanding about differing points of views and cultures. Get Into Reading will also introduce and promote the library to new users. The program ties in with Valencia's Education Is In and Student Development's Get In campaigns, as well as the Communications division's Raising Readers project. |
