About Get Into Reading

Get Into Reading is Valencia's 1st-ever Community Read. Modeled on a national initiative called The Big Read, its goal is to get Valencia "Into" Reading while promoting community through themed events and more! Get Into Reading is the result of a partnership between West and Winter Park Campus Student Development, West and Winter Park campus libraries, the Communication department and faculty collaboration across disciplines. It seeks to engage our campus community in dialogue and bring us together by promoting tolerance and understanding about differing points of views and cultures. Get Into Reading will also introduce and promote the library to new users. The program ties in with Valencia's Education Is In and Student Development's Get In campaigns, as well as the Communications division's Raising Readers project. Students will be reading Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner in their classes and participating in tie-in events, brown-bag lunch discussion groups and other activities relating to the novel. Hosseini's bestselling debut novel, chosen by Valencia students, is a novel with applications across many disciplines!
