Library Departments

Reference Department

Supervisor: Peggy Gunnell , Librarian
Contact Info: Please see our staff directory

Our Role:

Librarians promote student learning by providing one-to-one and/or group instruction to support informational, research, and classroom needs. Librarians also provide training/workshops for students and faculty in using print and electronic resources, i.e. Internet, LINCCWeb, and Academic Research Databases. In the role of departmental liaisons, librarians support departments by working with faculty to ensure that resources and services are adequate to support teaching and research needs.

Reference Services for Faculty/Staff:

Reference Workshops

The Reference staff provides workshops through our Book-Your-Own-Workshop program.   Simply select the workshop(s) you need and call the Reference desk to make an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.  We can provide workshops on a one-on-one basis or for a group of faculty or staff.

Workshops offered include:

  • Using online library card catalogs

  • Using interlibrary loan services

  • How to find magazine, newspaper and journal articles online

  • Search strategies for the World Wide Web

  • Remote access:  how to search our online databases from your home or office

Call the Reference desk at x4154 to schedule a workshop

Library Instruction

Our Reference Librarians can provide instruction for your class on how to use the Library and basics of library research.  Library Instruction is a program offered by the Library to promote student awareness and understanding of the services and resources available. Sessions last approximately 30 minutes and include lecture and demonstration. Hands-on practice, visual aids, and one-on-one interaction with the Librarian are some of the options that can allow you to create a session tailored to your needs.

To schedule a library instruction session for your class, please stop by the Reference Desk in the LRC, call x-4154 or use our online form at least one week in advance to satisfy campus-wide room request policies.   You can call us to check for availability.  Remember, library instruction sessions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, and only one class may be scheduled at a time, so book early!!
