Lab Instruction Classroom Procedures

Description

A computer instruction classroom is located in building four, room 122. There are 28 computers available for classroom use. Students use these computers during hands-on instruction as lab assistants demonstrate how to use MicroSoft PowerPoint, WebCT and MicroSoft Word. Each computer has access to the Internet and various related software.

Procedures

The Testing Center classroom (4-122) is used for lab instruction, testing and may also be used for one-time classroom use by instructors that need Internet access. Exceptions to use of this classroom will be made at the discretion of the manager of the ASC (Academic Success Center). Faculty and staff wishing to schedule a computer instruction session for their students should use the online links below to find availability (Orientations 2009) and then Request an Orientation. You will receive an e-mail response within 1 working day.

Scheduling

  • Faculty and staff requesting a computer lab instruction session should make their request with at least 48 hours advance notice giving staff time to prepare for your session. The instruction classroom books quickly so reserving your session well in advance increases your chances of getting your desired date and time. A brief description of the purpose of the instruction and an assignment if available should also be included in the request.

  • Instructors are required to be present during the instruction session or must arrange for a substitute. Instructors who are engaged in the instructional session not only help the staff but also communicate to their students that what is being taught is important.

  • Advance notice when canceling a scheduled instruction session is appreciated.

  • Please inform computer lab staff when scheduling if there will be any students with special needs (visually impaired, physically disabled, etc).

Room Etiquette

  • Cell phones and pagers should be set to vibrate or silenced.

  • If moved for the session, the physical arrangement of the rooms needs to be returned to the original configuration.

  • The computer lab classrooms remains locked when not in use.

  • Inappropriate use of computer equipment including downloading or transmitting malicious software, hacking restricted resources, and sending harassing, insulting or obscene email from computer lab computers is prohibited.
