Recognized as a leader and innovator in the assessment of student learning, Dr. Susan Hatfield has been at WSU since the fall of 1981. Susan has an undergraduate degree in speech, theatre and English education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, a MA is communication theory from Miami University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota with emphases in organizational communication and family communication. She has taught a number of courses at WSU including fundamentals of speech communication, interviewing, public speaking, nonverbal communication, communication and technology, interpersonal communication, organizational communication and communication theory. She served as the chairperson of the department of communication studies before taking her current job as the director of assessment and accreditation. One of her major responsibilities is chairing the steering committee which conducts the university wide self study for accreditation.
In addition to demonstrating the wonderful assessment tools which WSU places in the hands of every faculty member, Dr. Hatfield also offered these thoughts on assessment.
