Design Principles

The following design principles serve the purpose of guiding the work of the planning committee for each annual Learning Day at Valencia Community College.

  • Honor the philosophy for Learning Day developed by academic leadership.
  • Provide appropriate balance among these purposes: communication, community
  • building, wellness, critical learning, unit level team planning and development, and cross functional process work and learning.
  • Everyone attending should receive a full day of value that supports their work at Valencia.
  • Provide depth and breadth of programming to meet different levels of needs.
  • Include a focus on critical issues/opportunities facing the college in the year ahead (such as the evolving state college system and Valencia’s role).
  • Encourage engagement and active involvement in each session.
  • Design the program using tracks that relate to the needs we want to meet, providing a clearer means of selecting a learning path through the day.
