Minutes

The December minutes were approved.

CLC SPD Funds

The council approved requests for SPD funds from Lisa Armour, Jack Chambless, and Karen Borglum. Lisa Armour and Karen Borglum will be invited to make a presentation to the council after attending the AAHE Summer Academy.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

Future AS Program Reviews (guest Joan Tiller)

Joan Tiller provided insights on the current review process. There was discussion on the need for inclusion of student learning evidence in future program reviews.

The council will form a work team to make recommendations on redesigning program reviews. Tim Grogan will draft a charge for the work team.

Plans for Learning Day

The 2004-2005 Academic Assembly is scheduled for Thursday, August 19. The 2004-2005 Learning Day will be scheduled by the Calendar and Scheduling Committee; Louise Pitts will form and lead a planning committee for Learning Day. The council suggested modeling the structure of the committee on the one used for planning the 2002 Learning Day.

Research Possibilities (guest Hap Aziz)

Hap Aziz shared his research plans as a doctoral candidate at Nova Southeastern University. He is interested in researching Valencia’s need for connecting faculty and students through the use of instructional technology and distance learning. The council encouraged him to confer with DLAG.

2004 Initiatives

There was a discussion of possible 2004 council initiatives. Lisa Armour and Tracy Edwards will draft agenda items to address the opportunities identified.
