Honors Program Speaker SeriesWednesday, November 7
A native of the Kingdom of Swaziland and descendent of freedom fighters King Sobhuza II and Nelson Mandela (his grandfather), Dlamini is an impassioned speaker who travels the globe encouraging young people to work collectively to address world problems. In 2005 Dlamini founded the Ubuntu Institute for Young Social Entrepreneurs, which provides young African leaders with the skills they need in their communities to reach the Millennium Development Goals (eight goals established by the United Nations to eradicate poverty, hunger and disease around the world within the next two decades). Drawing on the South African concept of “ubuntu,” a value system based on compassion, respect, integrity, and tolerance of others, Dlamini promotes global forgiveness, compassion, and the use of dialogue, instead of violence, as a powerful tool for conflict resolution.
