Scholarship of the Month

 

Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando

The Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando is (HHSFMO) is a non-profit organization designed to support local Hispanic students enrolled in a degree-seeking program in one of the 7 Central Florida counties.  To be eligible applicants must meet these requirements:

  • Be of Hispanic heritage.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Must have applied for Federal Financial Aid using the FAFSA.
  • Be enrolled Full or Part time in a degree-seeking program at an accredited institution in of the seven Central Florida counties (Lake, Brevard, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, or Volusia).
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Complete scholarship application.
  • Essay (500-600 words recommended).
  • Official College Transcripts.
  • Letter of recommendation from college instructor or employment supervisor (no more than 2 letters will be read)

Current Scholarship Descriptions

The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship - (High School students graduating from high school in Spring 2009)

Due to the generosity of an anonymous donor, The Vegetarian Resource Group each year will award $10,000 in college scholarship money to graduating U.S. high school students who have promoted vegetarianism in their schools and/or communities. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or fowl.  To be eligible applicants must meet these additional requirements:

  • Must Complete the Online Application found HERE.
  • Submit copies of their transcripts or report cards for the past two year.
  • Submit three or more recommendation letters.

Two awards of $5,000 each will be given. Entries may only be sent by students graduating from high school in spring 2008.

USF Lead, Learn and Live Scholarship

USF St. Petersburg would like to announce a new scholarship program for students.  The Lead-Learn-Live Scholarship was established to promote leadership and strength retention for USFSP students that are entering the university for the first time.  To be eligible applicants must meet these requirements:

  • Admissible to USF St. Petersburg.
  • Full-time student (12 credit hours Undergraduate)
  • New First time in College or New Transfer student.
  • Enroll in SLS 2260: Leadership Fundamentals, in the Fall or Spring Semester.
  • Join and  participate in a club or organization during your first year.
  • Attend the LEAD (Leadership Exploration and Development) Program.
  • Active USF St. Petersburg housing contract for Fall 2008.

Central Florida Black Nurses Association Scholarship

The Central Florida Black Nurses Association Scholarship is accepting applications for the 2008-2009 aid year. The scholarship amount will range from $250 to $1000.  To be eligible applicants must meet these additional requirements:

  • Candidate must be an African American heritage/and or minority.
  • Must be a resident of Orange County, Polk County, Brevard County, Lake County, Osceola County, or Seminole County.
  • Must currently be enrolled FULL TIME in an accredited nursing program (LPN, AD, BSN, MSN, PhD, or DNP).
  • In good scholastic standing at the time of application, maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Has a significant financial need.
  • Must show participation and or involvement in community activities.
  • Must be a member of the CFBNA at the time application is submitted. (Ask the Central Florida Black Nurses Association for details).

Completed application packets must include the following:

  • Scholarship application found HERE.
  • An official transcript from an accredited school.
  • 2 letters of recommendation, from supervisor at work, professor, minister, community leader.
  • Evidence of participation in or involvement in community service.
  • Essay on professional expectations, long term, and short term goals.

AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

The AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students program provides financial awards to minority students who show significant potential to become Certified Public Accountants.  To be eligible applicants must meet these requirements:

  • Be a declared accounting major.
  • Be a FULL-TIME undergraduate student at an accredited college in the United States for the 2008-2009 academic year.
  • Have completed at least 30 semester hours of coursework, including at least 6 semester hours in accounting.
  • Applicant must be Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; Asian: American Indian or Alaska Native; Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; or of two or more races.
  • Have an Overall and Major GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Applicant can NOT presently be a CPA, but must intend to pursue the CPA credential.
  • Applicant must be an AICPA student affiliate member or have recently submitted a new member application.

Florida Nurses Foundation Scholarships

The Florida Nurses Foundation (FNF) is pleased to announce that the 2008 scholarship applications are now available!  FNF exist to promote nursing and delivery of healthcare through the advancement of research, education and practice.  To be eligible applicants must meet these requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Have completed at least one (1) semester of nursing program in Florida (must be completed by June 2 deadline).
  • Be a resident of Florida for at least one (1) year.
  • Undergraduate minimum GPA of 2.5.

Edmond Amateis Foundation Scholarship Award Program

The Edmond Amateis Foundation has scholarship funds available for local students with financial need.  The scholarship amount is $1500 per annual academic year.  To be eligible applicants must meet these additional requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of a high school in Lake County, Florida.
  • Must apply for financial aid at desired college of enrollment.

  • Must have financial need.

  • Must be a college Sophomore or above.
  • Must have a college Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher for initial and renewal awards.

  • Completion of 12 (twelve) credit hours required for renewal.

  • Must be a full-time student.

  • Employees, Officers and Board of Directors of Sun Trust Bank and their families are not eligible  for this scholarship.

Tylenol is once again offering their national scholarship for healthcare students.

"While medicine may treat the condition, we understand that it takes people to treat the patient. That's why the makers of TYLENOL® are giving away $250,000 in scholarships to students pursuing careers in healthcare."

South Lake Hospital Scholarship

Students that reside in Lake County, and would like to work for South Lake Hospital may qualify for the South Lake Hospital Scholarship. The scholarship pays for tuition, fees, required textbooks and uniforms. Applicants must be enrolled full time in the nursing, radiography or sonography program at Valencia (prerequisites must be completed and students must be accepted into the programs that are listed above).

Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA in all course work for scholarship renewal. Recipients of this scholarship award must also agree to work for South Lake Hospital for one year for each school year that the scholarship awards were in effect. Valencia Foundation Scholarship application for Fall 2008 & Spring 2009

The Valencia Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2008-2009 academic year.  (Fall 2008, Spring 2009, and Summer 2009 terms)

Steps for submitting a Valencia-Selected Foundation Scholarship:

1. Please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning January 01, 2008 for the 2008-09 Aid Year.

2. Complete the Valencia Foundation Scholarship application found HERE.  Along with your application please include your personal statement. Submit all documents to the Answer Center on your campus.

3. If you are awarded a scholarship, write a thank you note to the provider of the scholarship and submit to Financial Aid Services.  Your scholarship funds will be released for your use only after the Thank You note is written.

Full time students that have been involved in a soccer program for a minimum of two years within the last five years may be eligible for the Legacy Soccer Scholarship. Applicants must also meet these additional requirements:

William (Bill) McKelvy Expressway Authority Engineering & Engineering Technology Scholarship (F484)

The William (Bill) McKelvy Expressway Authority Engineering & Engineering Technology Scholarship is currently seeking a student enrolled in an engineering technology program or in pre-engineering intending to transfer for an engineering baccalaureate degree.  Applicants must also meet these additional requirements:

  • Submit a complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Demonstrate Financial Need.
  • Have a Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a qualified minority student.
  • Orange County residents have first priority, Seminole County residents have second priority, and all other Florida counties have third priority.
  • Scholarship recipient must attend a regular meeting of the Orlando/Orange. County Expressway Authority to be recognized for their selection.  Recipient is responsible for scheduling a meeting date.

Commercial Real Estate Women Orlando Scholarship (F516)

Applications are now being accepted for CREW Scholarships!

CREW Scholarship requirements are listed below:

  • Submit a complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Full Time or Part Time Students may apply by August 15 and November 15.
  • Continuing Education, Certifications, and Credit Class students are eligible.
  • Participation in Accounting, Architecture, Business Administration, Construction, Engineering, Law Real Estate, PACE Center, or Women in Transition are preferred but not required.
  • Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
