Tutoring Center - East Campus
Responsibilities of Students
Students who are seeking tutoring on a one-to-one basis are required
to come to the Tutoring Information Desk to discuss their specific
needs with a staff member. If tutoring is to be provided on an
individual basis the student will be asked to fill out a blue
tutoring referral card. The next step is to locate a tutor with the
same schedule as the student and set an appointment for the tutoring
sessions to begin. A set schedule will then be established between
student and tutor to meet on a weekly basis Mon. through Fri. only
and for a period of 2 and ½ hours per week. Additional hours must be
approved by the Tutor Coordinator.
Students are required to sign in prior to tutoring and out upon
completion of the session. No exceptions.
All tutoring must be done on campus preferably in the Tutoring
Center. Tutoring outside the Center must be discussed with either
Laura Randle, Assistant Coordinator or with the Coordinator, Eleanor
Tinkes for approval.
Students are asked to come prepared to the tutoring sessions. Time
with a tutor is limited and should be used as effectively as
possible. Attending class on a regular basis, attempts to complete
homework assignments, along with course related questions are
helpful to both student and tutor in the tutoring process. Tutors
are available to help students help themselves become more
independent active learners.
Our primary goal is to help students learn, improve their GPA,
graduate, and to be able to achieve their goals through their own
efforts and help from the tutoring staff.
Because this is a learning center, we ask that students not visit
with friends until the tutoring session is over. Tutors are paid for
their time and are expected to utilize their schedule strictly for
tutoring. Visitors present during the tutoring sessions are
distracting to both student and tutor. The noise level must be kept
to a minimum in order to provide the best learning environment
possible. Please be considerate.
Students are asked to be on time for appointments. Should
circumstances occur where students or tutors may be late or absent
phone calls must be made to either the Center or tutor explaining
the problem. If a student misses two appointments in a row with no
message to the Center or to the tutor a decision will be made by the
coordinator to remove the student from the tutor's schedule.
Tutors are bound by basically the same rules of attendance. Tutors
are expected to communicate with both their students and the
Center's staff should circumstances arise that would prevent
timeliness or attendance. |
