Academic Deans’ Job Description
The Dean is a front-line learning leader of the college and
a member of the Provost’s executive staff, responsible for promoting academic,
administrative and fiscal leadership in accordance with Valencia’s Strategic Learning Plan.
Essential Job
Functions:
Learning
Leadership
- Provide
conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation of student, staff and faculty
concerns
- Select,
supervise, evaluate, and develop faculty and staff
- Build
and maintain partnerships
among faculty, staff, administration, and community members
- Formulate
strategic division plans
- Participate
in the governance and committee
work of the college
Division
Administration
The Dean reports to the provost and will assume other duties
as assigned by the provost or the Chief Learning Officer.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Master’s
degree or higher required in related field
- Teaching
and/or work related experience in the field
- Excellent
organizational and problem solving skills including the ability to
anticipate needs and concerns
- Administrative
Experience
- History
of being open-minded, supportive, trustworthy, and fair
- Ability
to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse
student populations
