VSDI - Valencia Summer Dance
Institute
for Dance Performance
 A
staple at Valencia Community College since 2000, Valencia’s
free four-week summer program is designed for 20-25 ninth through
twelfth grade Orange and Osceola County students.
Focusing on the development of students’ processing skills
and meaningful demonstration of learning, the program’s multidisciplinary
approach provides students with authentic learning tasks and environments,
infused technology, and enables students continuous learning, assessment,
and reflection of interrelated disciplines.
The project has three components: hands-on, field, and classroom
instruction. Students will participate in: choreography/development
of dance, music and stagecraft practices, cooperative learning,
development of communication skills, assessment and analysis, and
the demonstration of acquired competencies through a dance performance.
The program is also geared toward the recruitment and retention
of dancers for future admittance to Valencia’s Associate in
Arts Dance Performance Degree.
