Course Title:
ADVANCED TRAFFIC CRASH INVESTIGATIONS (Mandatory Only)
Course Description:

Building upon the theories and techniques learned in IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course, this class will delve into the advanced concepts of traffic crash investigations.

More complex vehicle dynamics like acceleration/deceleration, factor, rate and airborne situations will be explored.  You will learn to estimate speeds from falls, vaults, and flips and the calculation of kinetic energy and linear momentum.  You'll also learn to evaluate vehicle lamps, tires, and damage to help determine vehicle behaviors during the collision.

Prerequisite: You must have completed IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course or its equivalent prior to attending this class.

Topics Include:

  • Speed estimates from kinetic energy, skid marks, scuff marks and airborne situations
  • Vehicle dynamics and motion
  • Time, distance, and motion equations
  • Conservation of momentum equations

Course Title:
AT-SCENE TRAFFIC CRASH HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION (Mandatory Only)
Course Description:

This 80-hour course will arm you with the necessary skills to conduct a thorough traffic crash investigation and properly document your findings for courtroom presentation.  

You will be shown the proper procedures for measuring, scale diagramming, and photographing in order to record physical evidence and essential facts available only at the crash scene.  You will learn the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and engineering as they pertain to crash investigations and the proper mathematical equations to apply for the type of crash being investigated.    Finally, you will learn to analyze the information to determine what happened before, during and after the collision.

IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation will prepare you for a variety of advanced and specialty courses in traffic crash investigations.

Course Description:

This 40 hour course is designed to enhance building search knowledge and expertise by exposure to various entry strategies. This course emphasizes practical skill development by utilizing live fire exercises, acutal building searches and a final practical exercise with electronic weapons that provide realistic feedback during end of course performance demonstrations. Successful completion of written and practical exams required.  This class is taught by the two SWAT experienced instructors that developed this course.

This 40 hour class is designed to introduce students to developing a cell extraction team, as well as conducting compliant and non-compliant cell extractions as a team.  Specific topics will cover issues related to team development and operations.  Other topics will cover equipment needs, basic physical tactics, and the use of advanced weapons and less than lethal delivery systems.

Course Description: This 40 hour course is designed for law enforcement or correctional officers to cover all aspects of field training and evaluation programs for new hires. Students will be introduced to current methods of evaluation and documentation necessary to successfully complete the training period. Topics covered will include adult learning, motivation, leadership, counseling techniques, FTO role; legal and ethical issues, communication, and reinforcing desired behavior. The new "CMS" Application based Basic Recruit Field Training Officer Program will be introduced during this course.

Course Description: This 44-hour Curriculum Maintenance System course is the prerequisite for certification as a CMS Firearms Instructor by CJSTC.   ALL STUDENTS MUST DEMONSTRATE FIREARMS PROFICIENCY BY SHOOTING ONE QUALIFYING SCORE OF 80% WITH THEIR SERVICE WEAPON (HANDGUN AND SHOTGUN) ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE CLASS .   FAILING STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CONTINUE THE PROGRAM.

Course Title: CMS VEHICLE OPERATIONS INSTRUCTOR #800 (Mandatory only)
Course Description: This 40-hour instructor course is organized and developed to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of an individual to provide efficient and effective basic recruit driving training to criminal justice personnel. It is based on the premise that the primary objective of the law enforcement basic recruit driver training instructor is to alert students to their responsibilities for safe and efficient vehicle operation both in stressful conditions, and during routine patrol. Prior to this certification the participant will have to complete the 80-hour Instructor Techniques course in order to be certified through the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. If the participant desires not to be certified, they can only teach in-service training classes.

Course Title: COMPUTERS & TECHNOLOGY IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE #080 (Salary or Mandatory)
Course Description:

This 40-hour course is designed to provide criminal justice officers with computer and technology training, an understanding of how computers are used in the criminal justice system. It will include different types of networks and how they are used, the importance of knowing how to apply software, legal considerations, and the importance of computer security in the criminal justice system. Students will have an opportunity to demonstrate how to utilize the basic functions of an operating system, perform word processing, create a spreadsheet, and create media presentation. Students will also demonstrate basic internet skills as they relate to criminal justice by utilizing an internet browser, e-mail, and by searching for criminal justice information on the internet. It is recommended that you complete this course before taking Computer Crime Investigations #1153

Course Description:

This 40-hour course is designed to provide an understanding of the types of computer crimes and how they relate to identity theft, fraud, child pornography/predator, and network sharing. This course provides basic investigative strategies and evidentiary considerations when conducting an investigation involving computers and related technology. Legal information is taught throughout the course as it relates to the topic. This provides relevancy to the student as it applies to the situation. Students will receive information that will encourage them to provide community awareness. It is recommended that prior to taking this course, students complete Advanced Course 080 –Computers and Technology in Criminal Justice.

Course Title: CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM (Mandatory only)
Course Description: Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training is an intensive 40-hour training program designed to provide the officers with enhanced knowledge, skills and experience in effectively dealing with persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse in crisis.   This training will equip the officers with strategies for de-escalating potentially violent situations and resources for diverting the individual into appropriate treatment as opposed to jail, when possible.   The curriculum includes:   signs & symptoms of mental illnesses; medications; substance abuse; mental retardation and autism; child and adolescent disorders; geriatric mental health problems; other medical conditions which mimic mental illnesses; Baker Act/Marchman Act; legal issues; suicide and violence risk assessment; crisis intervention/de-escalation; consumer perspective/family perspective; site visits to psychiatric facilities; role play and community resources.

Course Description: This 16-hour instructor course is organized and developed to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of an individual to operate agency vehicles in a variety of conditions and tactical situations.   This course reinforces basic driving skills while developing a series of advanced skills. Investigation of Motocycle Courses (Mandatory Only)
Course Description:

This 40 hour course is designed for experienced traffic crash investigators who have a good working knowledge of the techniques and applications of formulas taught in basic crash investigation courses and who wish to build upon that foundation with more advanced mathematical formulas used to analyze motorcycle crashes.

Various field tests will be conducted showing you a variety of motorcycle skids, accelerations and slide-to-stop drag factors.  You will learn how to photograph skids and examine the subsequent effects that skids have on the tires and surfaces.  Through these tests, you will gain valuable first-hand experience that can be beneficial in court proceedings. 

You will be given a manual of applicable information to use as a motorcycle reference book.

Topics include:

  • Analyzing and interpreting the motorcycle crash scene
  • Determining acceleration and deceleration characteristics of the motorcycle
  • Analyzing and interpreting modes of instability and handling characteristics in motorcycles

Course Description: This 40 hour basic Mountain Bike Officer Course will teach participants the basic skills for riding a 21 speed mountain bike. Officers will have a better understanding of the mountain bike, nomenclature, proper shifting techniques, routine maintenance and minor repair. The Mountain Bike Officer will have a better understanding of strength, nutrition, body fuels and the prevention and treatment of common bicycle injuries. Course Title: STREET GANG IDENTIFICATION & INVESTIGATIONS (Mandatory only)
Course Description: This 16-hour course is designed to introduce law enforcement personnel to criminal street gangs. The course will covers national and local gang statistics, legal definitions, and state and federal gang statutes. It covers the major nationally-affiliated gangs and criminal enterprises such as Folk Nation, People Nation, Latin Kings, Neta, La eme, Nuestra Familia, Surenos, Nortenos, Mara Salvatrucha 13, Crips, Bloods. 18 street, Los Zetas, and White Supremacy. In addition to discussing these groups, radicalization in prison with groups such as the Nation of Islam, Macheteros and 5 Percenters is also examined. Gang's use of technology and the web as well as gangs in the military are also discussed. The presentation concludes with an investigative techniques/officer safety block in which gang member's tactics and mind set are covered and actual critical incident involving gang-related violence towards law enforcement are debriefed and examined. This course provides current gang intelligence and information for the Central Florida region and is designed to provide the officer with the tools needed to identify and investigate criminal street gangs.

Course Title: SURVEILLANCE TECHNIQUES & GPS INSTALL (Mandatory only)
Course Description: This 40-hour course of instruction will provide the student with a progressive understanding of moving, stationary and electronic surveillance.   The student will be introduced to the latest currently used surveillance equipment and common techniques.   The student will learn how to install and operate a GPS tracking devices.   Major emphasis will be given to allowing the student to practice all learned techniques in the field.

Course Title: TACTICAL PISTOL FOR THE PATROL OFFICER (Mandatory only)
Course Description: This 40-hour course was developed specifically for the uniform officer. Topics covered will be weapons handling skills, shot placement drills, shooting on the move, and engaging hostile targets while seated in a patrol vehicle. This course will provide the patrol officer with above average weapons and tactical skills that will greatly increase his or her odds of winning an armed confrontation. Much emphasis is placed on mental preparation, and the participant will have nearly 30 hours of range time. Thus providing the participant with the hands on opportunity, and improved skills through repetition.

  • Currently hold the rank or position of a first-line supervisor that does not oversee other supervisors.
  • Show an employment history of increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • Have the intent to remain in criminal justice for at least five years following completion of the Leadership Academy.
  • Have the written nomination of his/her immediate supervisor indicating the applicant's potential for advancement in criminal justice.

This three day, 24 hour course provides training for Criminal Justice Chaplains.  The course material was developed by some of the finest chaplains in the nation. Topics include; The Chaplain's Role in Critical Incident Stress Debriefings, Death Notifications, Law Enforcement Peer Support, Recruiting and Training Volunteers, Chaplains role with Agency Adminstration, the Chaplains Role in Hostage Negotiations. Course Description: This 16 hour course is a must for every patrol officer and community service officer.  The first officer responding to the scene may ultimately determine the success of the following investigation based on the immediate steps that they take and/or the scene processing that they accomplish.  This course provides detailed information and practical training that ranges from the response to the first call, up to the technical capabilites of crime labs that will examine evidence collected at the scene. Course Title: Injury & Death Investigation  (Fee Course) (Mandatory Only)

Description:

This 40 hour course is appropriate for any patrol officer and is a must for investigators with no formal training in this area.  The class opens with the medico-legal aspects including the role of the medical examiner and a summary of the forensic information gained during autopsy.  The course next covers evidence from wounds, providing audio-visual illustrations of common types of wounds encountered in injury and death investigations.   Physical evidence and laboratory analysis is covered, as well as, 17 hours of crime specific investigations including; criminal homicide, felony assaults, suicides, assaults against children, vehicle homicides, fire deaths, asphyxial deaths and electrocutions, to name a few. This course is taught by an FDLE Certified Instructor with more than 23 years of law enforcement experience and 17 years of investigations experience and supervision.

What to Expect

* This course will focus on the BASICS; it will teach a solid foundation for the safe conduct of rappel tower operations.

* Fast Pace: In order to make this course "user friendly" to smaller agencies, the course will be taught in five days.

* Physically Demanding: The nature of the course is physically demanding (good physical condition=less pain & soreness)

* Wednesday will be a very long day (night ops). There will be adequate time for a hot dinner.

* To avoid heat injuries, an ice chest with Gatorade or water is recommended. A hat and sunscreen is also encouraged.

Course Description:
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training is an intensive 40-hour training program designed to provide the officers with enhanced knowledge, skills and experience in effectively dealing with persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse in crisis.   This training will equip the officers with strategies for de-escalating potentially violent situations and resources for diverting the individual into appropriate treatment as opposed to jail, when possible.   The curriculum includes:   signs & symptoms of mental illnesses; medications; substance abuse; mental retardation and autism; child and adolescent disorders; geriatric mental health problems; other medical conditions which mimic mental illnesses; Baker Act/Marchman Act; legal issues; suicide and violence risk assessment; crisis intervention/de-escalation; consumer perspective/family perspective; site visits to psychiatric facilities; role play and community resources.
