ADVANCED TRAFFIC
CRASH INVESTIGATIONS (Mandatory Only) |
Course Description: |
Building upon the
theories and techniques learned in IPTM's At-Scene Traffic
Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course, this class will
delve into the advanced concepts of traffic crash investigations.
More complex vehicle
dynamics like acceleration/deceleration, factor, rate and
airborne situations will be explored. You will learn
to estimate speeds from falls, vaults, and flips and the calculation
of kinetic energy and linear momentum. You'll also learn
to evaluate vehicle lamps, tires, and damage to help determine
vehicle behaviors during the collision.
Prerequisite:
You must have completed IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic
Homicide Investigation course or its equivalent prior to attending
this class.
Topics Include:
- Speed estimates from kinetic energy, skid marks, scuff
marks and airborne situations
- Vehicle dynamics and motion
- Time, distance, and motion equations
- Conservation of momentum equations

AT-SCENE TRAFFIC
CRASH HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION (Mandatory Only) |
Course Description: |
This 80-hour course
will arm you with the necessary skills to conduct a thorough
traffic crash investigation and properly document your findings
for courtroom presentation.
You will be shown
the proper procedures for measuring, scale diagramming, and
photographing in order to record physical evidence and essential
facts available only at the crash scene. You will learn
the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and engineering as
they pertain to crash investigations and the proper mathematical
equations to apply for the type of crash being investigated.
Finally, you will learn to analyze the information to determine
what happened before, during and after the collision.
IPTM's At-Scene
Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation will prepare
you for a variety of advanced and specialty courses in traffic
crash investigations.

This 40-hour instructor course is organized and

an individual to provide efficient and effective basic recruit
driving training to criminal justice personnel. It is based
on the premise that the primary objective of the law enforcement
basic recruit driver training instructor is to alert students
to their responsibilities for safe and efficient vehicle operation
both in stressful conditions, and during routine patrol. Prior
to this certification the participant will have to complete
the 80-hour Instructor Techniques course in order to be certified
through the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

justice system. It will include different types of networks
and how they are used, the importance of knowing how to apply
software, legal considerations, and the importance of computer
security in the criminal justice system. Students will have
an opportunity to demonstrate how to utilize the basic functions
of an operating system, perform word processing, create a
spreadsheet, and create media presentation. Students will
also demonstrate basic internet skills as they relate to criminal
justice by utilizing an internet browser, e-mail, and by searching

relate to identity theft, fraud, child pornography/predator,

CRISIS
INTERVENTION TEAM (Mandatory only) |
| Course Description: |
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training is an
intensive 40-hour training program designed to provide the officers
with enhanced knowledge, skills and experience in effectively
dealing with persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse
in crisis. This training will equip the officers with
strategies for de-escalating potentially violent situations
and resources for diverting the individual into appropriate
treatment as opposed to jail, when possible. The curriculum
includes: signs & symptoms of mental illnesses; medications;
substance abuse; mental retardation and autism; child and adolescent
disorders; geriatric mental health problems; other medical conditions
which mimic mental illnesses; Baker Act/Marchman Act; legal
issues; suicide and violence risk assessment; crisis intervention/de-escalation;
consumer perspective/family perspective; site visits to psychiatric
facilities; role play and community resources. |

This is the 8 hour FDLE General Instructor Refresher
Course 1115. This course is for instructors who allowed
their FDLE General Instructor Certificate to lapse or for individuals
wanting to apply for an FDLE Certified Instructor Certificate,
but took the CMS Instructor Techniques more than 4 years ago.
Madatory topics for this course include; liability and ethics,
lesson plan preparation and use and group management. Elective

Investigation of Motocycle
Courses (Mandatory Only) |
Course Description: |
This
40 hour course is designed for experienced traffic crash investigators
who have a good working knowledge of the techniques and applications
of formulas taught in basic crash investigation courses and
who wish to build upon that foundation with more advanced
mathematical formulas used to analyze motorcycle crashes.
Various
field tests will be conducted showing you a variety of motorcycle
skids, accelerations and slide-to-stop drag factors.
You will learn how to photograph skids and examine the subsequent
effects that skids have on the tires and surfaces. Through
these tests, you will gain valuable first-hand experience
that can be beneficial in court proceedings.
You
will be given a manual of applicable information to use as
a motorcycle reference book.
Topics include:
- Analyzing and interpreting
the motorcycle crash scene
- Determining acceleration and
deceleration characteristics of the motorcycle
- Analyzing and interpreting
modes of instability and handling characteristics in motorcycles
- Interpreting the operator
factor
- Reviewing motorcycle tires,

injurious crashes in urban areas. Because of their unique
nature, special techniques are required to investigate and
reconstruct these incidents.

40 hour course addresses the special dynamics involved in
pedestrian and bicycle traffic crashes. From reaction
times to victim injury analysis to environmental factors,
