Admission Process for 2008 Academies

STEP 1. VALENCIA APPLICATION

  • Obtain a Valencia Application from the Admissions Office at the East, West or Osceola Campuses. Complete the application. Note: On page one of the application, please select East as your home campus.
  • Pay the $35.00 Valencia application fee in the Finance Office.
  • Return your application to the Admission Office.

STEP 2. CRIMINAL JUSTICE BASIC ABILITIES TEST(CJ BAT)

  • The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJ BAT) for law enforcement and correctional officers consists of 125 multiple-choice questions that will assess your language, visualization and reasoning skills.   It is an FDLE required test and there are no exemptions.  
  • All paperwork for this test is completed in the Assessment Centers at the East, West or Osceola Campuses. There is a $30 fee for this test. To find out the times that the test is administered, please contact the Assessment Center at the phone numbers listed below:

  • If you have been hired by an Agency that is paying for the CJ BAT, it will be necessary to obtain a letter of authorization from the Criminal Justice Institute office.
  • The test is administered by computer. You will have two hours and thirty minutes to complete the CJ BAT.
  • Test Scores are available immediately after the test has been completed by the student. One copy of the results will be given to the student. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the Criminal Justice Institute receives a copy of the test results.

STEP 3. CRIMINAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE APPLICATION

  • Bring a copy or your CJBAT test scores in order to pick up a Law Enforcement Academy or Correctional Officer Academy application from the Criminal Justice Institute Office, 8600 Valencia College Lane.    Return to CJI with the completed application and pay the $50 application fee.
  • Your application must be fully completed with all requested attachments and copies for you to be considered for any Criminal Justice Institute Program.

STEP 4. NOTIFICATION

  • Admission to the Academy is limited by the space available.
  • You will receive a letter from the Criminal Justice Institute at the time of your acceptance into an Academy

STEP 5. REGISTRATION/TUITION PAYMENT

  • You will register for the Academy at the Criminal Justice Institute Office, 8600 Valencia College Lane.  
  • The tuition must be paid in full by cash, money order, cashiers check, or by credit/debit card on the day you are registered for the Academy.   No personal checks are accepted.
  • Make sure to purchase your uniforms and books according to the academy guidelines that are listed in the front of the academy application.

STEP 6. GO TO CLASS
