Florida Leadership Academy

Welcome to Valencia Community College's Florida Leadership Academy website.  The Florida Leadership Academy is a first line supervisors program that was developed by FDLE's Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute (FCJEI).   Valencia Criminal Justice Institute is bringing this course to central Florida with the endorsement and support of FCJEI.  This course runs for one week a month for four consecutive months.  Students will receive student guides and several books that are referenced during the training. For more information on the Florida Leadership Academy and to see pictures of previous classes, please visit FDLE's FCJEI website.  Be among central Florida's first to attend this prestigious leadership academy.  You will be trained by leading criminal justice instructors, who have hundreds of years of combined experience as supervisors, sheriffs, police chiefs and corrections directors.

Course Fee & Enrollment:

$280   Agency 2nd dollars funds are authorized.

Enrollment is limited to 30 students.  Admission to the program will be considered based upon the provided information, including the quality , comprehensiveness and timeliness of the application.  Applications must be received

6 UCF Credits

The CJI has an agreement with University of Central Florida’s Criminal Justice Department and is offering 6 masters level or 6 undergraduate credits in their Criminal Justice Degree Programs as a component to the FDLE Florida Leadership Academy offered at Valencia Community College. Students seeking UCF course credit will be required to register at UCF and pay masters level tuition.  Additionally, there will be additional course work, including two exams, a research paper and attendance of the Friday afternoon lectures on Sessions 1-3.  More information on UCF registration will be provided upon acceptance of your application to the Florida Leadership Academy.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Occupy a criminal justice position that includes full-time,  permanent responsibility for the supervision of others.
  • Currently hold the rank or position of a first-line supervisor that does not oversee other supervisors.
  • Show an employment history of increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • Have the intent to remain in criminal justice for at least five years following completion of the Leadership Academy.
  • Have the written nomination of his/her immediate supervisor indicating the applicant's potential for advancement in criminal justice.
  • Have the written endorsement of the agency chief executive pledging their support for the applicant's participation in the program.
