Welcome to the website for the Council on Instructional Affairs (CIA), an organization comprised of academic officers in Florida's community colleges who work together to identify issues and develop solutions to statewide matters that impact academic programs and services.

The Council on Instructional Affairs role is to:

  • provide opportunities for the chief academic officers of Florida's community colleges to work together to develop solutions to statewide problems,
  • promote improvements in all aspects of curriculum and instruction,
  • program approval and review,
  • share ideas and problems,
  • coordinate statewide activities and initiatives in academic affairs,
  • provide professional development for the members of the Council on topics of importance to Florida's community colleges, and
  • address issues and problems as assigned by the Council of President.

The Council on Instructional Affairs areas of responsibility include:

  • make recommendations and give advice to the Council of Presidents (COP) on various statewide academic issues, and
  • direct the work of the Standing Committees on Occupational Education, Learning Resources and Adult and Continuing Education.

The Standing Committee's role is to:

  • address issues and problems related to all aspects of the special areas assigned by the Council on Instructional Affairs, or which the Standing committee has identified themselves,
  • provide recommendations, suggestions and advice to the Council on those matters, and
  • meet in conjunction with the Council on Instructional Affairs at least once a year.
