The latest from Leadership Valencia

Lifespeak: Living From the Inside Out (Formation) - Why not take time out of your busy schedule to become reacquainted with yourself? You are invited to join your colleagues in the second session of this three-part series to discuss Parker Palmer's book, Let Your Life Speak, which explores finding ones authentic vocation. This workshop is not designed to place additional demands on our already busy schedules. Rather, it is an opportunity to delight our spirits. This workshop will be presented by Mary Allen and Jane Renfroe on Thursday, March 10, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., Osceola Campus, Room 1-258, registration code LFORM3.

Creating a Culture of Service Excellence (Sponsored by AAWCC) - Everything your customers see, hear, and touch, impacts their experience. Delivering the ultimate in customer service requires careful planning and design of the entire customer experience. In a culture of service excellence, the delivery of outstanding service is not viewed as an exception or add-on, it is recognized as the "way we do business." This program identifies a model and leadership actions necessary to create and sustain a culture of exceptional service delivery. This workshop will be presented by Teri Yanovitch on Thursday, March 10, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Winter Park Campus, Room 225, registration code PCCSE.

Local Leaders: A Path to Leadership - We continue our Path to Leadership series this academic year by expanding the theme and introducing a "Local Leaders" focus. This brown bag lunch series will spotlight local Orlando area leaders as they share their story about their Path to Leadership. Each person's interpretation of leadership and their journey is unique. Note: Dessert will be provided. Sponsored by the Valencia Chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC). This workshop will be presented by Gail-Paschall Brown of WESH Channel 2 on Thursday, March 10, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Winter Park Campus, Room 237, registration code GLLW.

Working with the Under Prepared Student - The wave of under prepared students reaching Valencia's 'front door' is ever increasing and brings with it special challenges for the learning centered instructor. This workshop will present strategies that faculty can use to reinforce the habits of successful students in any discipline, without diluting content delivery. This workshop will be presented by Mary Pepe and Jane Wiese on Thursday, March 10, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., West Campus, Room 6-202, registration code LWUPS.

To register for any Leadership Valencia workshop, mail a completed registration form to DTC-1, fax to ext. 3134, or register online at http://valenciacc.edu/leadership/regstr.asp. For additional information please e-mail Heather Coxe at hcoxe@valenciacc.edu.

Time Sheets Due!

Due to the upcoming Spring Break, all part-time time sheets for the period of 02/20/05-03/05/05 need to be in Payroll Services no later than Tuesday, 03/08/05. It is imperative that Payroll Services receive the time sheets by this due date.

Please exert every effort to comply with the stated date above to ensure all of our part-time staff is paid on time for the pay date that falls during Spring Break. Time sheets received after this date, for whatever reason, will be paid on the April 8, 2005 payroll. We certainly appreciate your cooperation.

Payroll Distribution during Spring Break

In consideration of the potential hardship caused by the delay in the distribution of payroll checks for the March 25 payroll, the following will occur:

Employees on direct deposit will have their funds available on Friday, March 25. Your deposit advise (payroll stub) will be distributed in the usual manner on Monday, March 28.

Payroll checks or deposit advice normally mailed to employees will be mailed on Thursday, March 24.

We have made arrangements with the West Campus Business Office to distribute payroll checks (not check stubs) on Thursday, March 24, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, at the West Campus SSB Building, Room 101. Regardless of which campus you work at, your check will be available for pick up at the West Campus Business Office on March 24, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Checks will be dated March 25 and are not negotiable (cannot be cashed) until 2:00 PM on March 24.

In order to claim your check, you must present some form of photo I.D. Checks will be released to the employee only. Payroll checks not claimed on March 25 will be delivered to your respective campuses for routine distribution on Monday, March 28.

Valencia Students Sweep ADDYs AGAIN!

For the second year in a row, Valencia Graphics Technology students cleaned up at the ADDYs, the annual advertising competition that has local, state and national levels of prestige. Out of the four local colleges represented, Valencia students managed to walk away with 50% of the student ADDYs awarded, including five out of the six Gold ADDYs and the Best of Student ADDY. The student competition is held to the same creative standards established by the existing professional ADDY Awards and is judged by leading creative professionals and experienced ADDY judges.

Congratulations to Phuong-Ngoc Le (Best of Student, Gold ADDY and $500 scholarship winner), Jenny Mohess (Three Gold ADDY awards), Kelley Salih (Gold ADDY winner), Mike Florio (Silver ADDY winner) and Jeremy Perez-Cruz (Silver ADDY winner)! Valencia students represented categories such as: Packaging Sales Promotion, Stationery Package Collateral Material, Poster Collateral Material and Direct Marketing.

This is the first year that Student Gold and Best of Student ADDY winners will automatically move forward to the District competition where they will compete against winning student entries from all across Florida and the Caribbean. District winners will move on to compete in the National Student ADDY competition. There will be a $1,000 scholarship awarded to the Best of Student award winner at both the National and District levels.
