Lifespeak: Living From the Inside Out (Formation):
Why not take time out of your busy schedule to become
reacquainted with yourself? You are invited to join your colleagues
in the second session of this three-part series to discuss Parker
Palmer's book, Let Your Life Speak, which explores finding ones
authentic vocation. This workshop is not designed to place
additional demands on our already busy schedules. Rather, it is an
opportunity to delight our spirits. Part 2: This session will be
presented by Jane Renfroe and Mary Allen on Thursday, February 3,
2:00 - 4:00 p.m., West Campus, Room 9-140B, registration code

An Introduction to Valencia's Smart Classroom Technology:
Come and see the latest in classroom technology. View a
demonstration of the Smart Classroom and learn how easy this new
technology is to use. A question and answer time is included to help
faculty with specific needs in the technology enhanced classroom.

ILP Review Panel: This workshop is designed to help
prepare Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) Review Panelists for the
second review of tenure candidates ILP work. Panelists will examine
the elements and requirements of the pre-tenure portfolio. Panelists
will then develop a shared understanding of what constitutes a
quality portfolio by assessing sample artifacts using the Portfolio
Evaluation Rubric. Note: All panelists serving on Year-2 Panels must
attend this workshop. If you have already attended a workshop on the
Year-2 ILP meeting, you do not have attend again. Tuesday, February

New Atlas Tools for Faculty - Groups: Come see how to
effectively use the new tools available in "My Courses" to enhance

Assessment: The purpose of this workshop is to examine the
ideas behind assessment measures and techniques that form a more
complete picture of learning. Participants will explore assessment
strategies that enable student growth through participation, timely,
formative measures, and promote students' ability to self-assess.

Macromedia Flash - Level Three: Get deep into Flash with
this advanced course. Animate along a path, create special floors
with masks and discover how to export to a video file. You'll also
create animated buttons, connect Flash to URL links through the
browser, add sounds and learn how to use the Tell Target function.
Prerequisite: Macromedia Flash: Level Two or equivalent experience.

Mentoring 101:Join this workshop as facilitators address
specific questions including: What is mentoring? What forms can it
take? What are the benefits of mentoring and being mentored? Note:
Sponsored by the Valencia Chapter of the American Association for
Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC). This session will be presented
by Patti Riva, Amy Bosley, & Carol Johnson on Friday, February 4,

Hats off to the Valencia Foundation, under the leadership of
Geraldine Gallagher, President and CEO. The Foundation has been
ranked the tenth largest non-profit organization in Central Florida,
according to the Orlando Business Journal, which compiles the
ranking based on review of revenue for the organizations' most
recent fiscal year.
Dr. Jared Graber, Dean of Business, Behavioral and Social
Sciences, West Campus was one of 15 individuals selected by the SACS
Commission on Colleges to serve on the Program Planning Committee
for the 2005 annual meeting in Atlanta.
Sonja M. Boles-Melvin, Coordinator of Admissions and
Records, received her Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from
Troy State University on January 15, 2005.
Dr. Silvia Zapico, Provost, Osceola Campus was recently
elected to serve as the Chairperson-Elect for the Community Vision
in Osceola County. Community Vision serves the people of Osceola
County by bringing people and resources together to achieve the
community's vision.

These Workshops are offered by West Campus Career Development

February 2: Resume and Cover Letter Writing, 1:00-2:00
p.m., West Campus, Building 4 Room 120. Effective resumes and cover
letters are important self-marketing tools. We can provide tips on
how to develop both an effective resume and cover letter that will
give a snapshot of your skills and experience.
March 16: Connecting Your Interests to Majors & Careers,
9:30-11:00 a.m., West Campus, Building 7 Room 114. People who choose
careers based on interests (instead of skills) are more likely to be
successful, according to typology theorist John Holland.
Understanding yourself is essential to choosing a major and career.
Come learn more about your interests and how you can find a program
and career path that might fit you.
March 30: Tips for a Successful Interview 1:00-2:00 p.m.,
West Campus, Building 4 Room 120. According to Dahlstrom & Company,
six out of ten people do not get the job they want because they do
not sell themselves, or communicate to the employer that he or she
is the best candidate for the job. We can give you some tips on how
to project a confident, professional image.
April 5: Oops & Ahs - How's Your Career Etiquette,
10:00-11:00 a.m., West Campus, Building 7 Room 114. Why do some
people succeed in the workplace and others do not? Career etiquette
is an important key to workplace success. Etiquette enhances
relationships and it allows us to grow in confidence and authority
in all areas of our professional and personal life. Join us in this
workshop to learn about etiquette in the workplace.
April 5: Job Search Strategies (limited seating),
1:00-2:00 p.m., West Campus, Building 6 (LRC), Room 220. The use of
want ads, postal mail, employment agencies and "pounding the
pavement" are effective traditional methods of job search. However,
internet-based searches have become another viable option because of
the advantages for both job seekers and employers. Plan to attend
this workshop to learn more about job search strategies. Seating is
limited, please call to sign-up.
April 6: Making the First Year Count, A Guide to Your
Professional Development, 1:00-2:00 p.m., West Campus, Building 4
Room 120. This interactive workshop will help you to identify the
skills and knowledge necessary for a successful transition into your
professional career. Participants will gain valuable insight on ways
to increase opportunities for advancement, network within the
company, establish a creditable reputation as well as adapting to
the organization's culture. Keeping the job is just as important as
getting the job. (Please sign-up by visiting the Career Development
Services office or calling.)
