Valencia Character Company Call for Auditions

The Valencia Character Company on East Campus will hold auditions for its February production of the hit musical, CABARET, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Black Box Theater, with call backs on Saturday, Dec. 3 beginning at 10 AM. Auditionees should call Diana Hopkins at 407-582-2900 (or ext. 2900) to schedule an appointment; appointment times begin at 6:30 PM on the 29th. Those auditioning should come prepared to sing 16 bars of an upbeat song and 16 bars of a ballad; an accompanist will be provided, or an instrumentals-only CD may be used. At call-backs, actors will learn a dance combination, read from the script, and sing from the score. Production dates are Feb. 17-26, 2006, and rehearsals will be held during evening hours, beginning January 9. Auditions are open to all interested parties: students, Valencia staff and faculty, and actors from the community. Please call Julia Gagne at ext. 2296 for further information.

Celebrate the Season of Giving!

Join West Campus on Thursday, December 8, from 11-2:30 when we will hold a holiday celebration filled with the spirit of fun and giving. The celebration will be held in the HSB (rotunda, patio area, and room 105). We will feature our competitive silent auction, our infamous chili-cook-off, and our fabulous activities. Please read on for specific information on each event.

Silent Auction: We will be collecting gently used items for auction. Please bring all donated items to Vivian Martin in the Provost office. If you have a specific talent/creation or big ticket item that you would be willing to contribute, please let me know because we will feature items several times a week via e-mail.

Chili Cook-Off: So you think your chili is award-winning, let's find out. We will have awards (and gift certificates) in several categories including: hottest, best vegetarian, best presentation, and best overall tasting. Our celebrity judges include: Chefs Pierre Pilloud and Ken Bourgoin; Program Director of Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Jim Inglis; Provost, Dr. Paula Gastenveld; and President of Culinary Club, Ryan Burke, Please have your name submitted for registration to Mary Ellen Davies by November 30.

Activities: There will be cookie, candle, and ornament making tables. There will also be photo ops with Santa Claus, and of course, the Baby DJ event. Bring in an unwrapped toy and receive a free hamburger or hot dog. All of these activities are sponsored by Student Development. Hello and Goodbye

A fond farewell and best wishes are extended to Leonard Labato, retiring 12/31/05 and Willie Hudson, Catherine Lee and Diana Marini, all retiring 1/31/06.

At the recent 19th Annual HACU (Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities) Conference, Silvia Zapico, provost, Osceola Campus was elected to serve as the chair of the HACU Governing Board for the next year.

Brandon, Crystal and I wish to thank everyone in our college family for their outpouring of sympathy and support. We have had a difficult time with the passing of my wife, Sondra, but the care and devotion shown by our Valencia family has overwhelmed us in a positive way. We have been blessed by your concern shown through your cards and letters. I can't say what we would have done without you.
I would like to extend a special thanks to John Mantione for his constant support and understanding and also for his endeavors to provide a base of support from the Valencia Community. Thank you everyone!

We Are Moving . . . .

Human Resources and Payroll will begin moving into their new facility the week of Thanksgiving. Please accept our apology up front for any convenience this may cause you. The new facility will be on the East Side at the new Public Safety Institute Building/CJI location at 8600 Valencia College Lane. HR's mail code will be 3-33 and payroll's will be 3-34.
