AtD needs you!

WANTED: Faculty, advisors, and staff who are interested in participating on work teams for Achieving the Dream (AtD). AtD is a college initiative currently supported by the Lumina Foundation, aimed at improving student performance and closing the achievement gaps across diverse populations.

You are invited to attend an AtD Inspirational Summit on Wednesday, October 26, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., West Campus, Room 6-202. Please R.S.V.P. to Joseph Cruz at jcruz53@valenciacc.edu or call ext. 2442.

The summit will feature Dr. Crystal Kuykendall, educator, attorney, and founder of Kreative and Innovative Resources for Kids (KIRK). She is also the author of the highly acclaimed best-selling book, From Rage to Hope: Strategies for Reclaiming Black and Hispanic Students.

This "inspirational summit" is meant to gather interested faculty, advisors, and staff to "kick-off" the work teams that will be associated with closing the gap. We hope that you will be able to join us for this inaugural event and contribute your ideas and talents to the initiative as we move forward. Thank you!

News from Procurement

Approved Strategic Equipment Request forms (Form B) must be submitted electronically to the designated GroupWise Address, "Strategic Equipment Requests." Only items approved by the Executive Council will be ordered. For instructions and a copy of Form B, please go to our web page: http://valenciacc.edu/procurement/facultystaff.asp.

In FY 04/05, the College spent $480,820 in postage (including Fed Ex). Overnight packages alone cost the College $11,359. Many of these overnight shipments were from Orlando to Orlando. The Procurement Office is currently seeking alternate means of obtaining the same result, at a lower cost. Companies such as Fed Ex add on fees to include: fuel surcharge ($4.25), pick up cost ($4.00), incorrect account number ($10.00), delivery charge to a residential address ($2.00), etc. The USPS offers the same guaranteed overnight delivery (Express Mail) without the extra expense.

Have a problem with a vendor? Contact the Procurement Office to help 'fight your battle'. We will assist you with any vendor relationship issues. As part of our on-going effort to improve college/vendor relationships, the Procurement Office documents any problems that you may have with vendors. This provides us with justification not to utilize vendors that do not provide excellent customer service.

UCF to begin new Bachelor Degree Programs at West campus

Building on the community college credits, A.A. or A.S. degree, students will be able to move further toward career or professional advancement.

Information Sessions: Wednesday, October 19, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Room 7-114 and Tuesday, October 25, 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., Room 6-202. For more information: visit www.regionalcampuses.ucf.edu, or contact Selena Forrester at (352) 536-2175 or sforrest@mail.ucf.edu.

Our process: A grand project needs great planning. That is why at M&MR we start with a consultation, sharing our insight and experience so that as a collective we can identify the best marketing strategies to reach your goals.

From this consultation, our copywriters, photographers, and designers work to effectively connect your message to your potential prospects. No job is too big or too small for us to handle-from web to print, huge billboards to tiny matchbook size planners, branding to logos to stationary to forms, we've done it all. Turning ideas into reality is our purpose. We are creative, but creative within a discipline, to make our clients successful.

Once your ideas have been creatively developed, we'll want to ensure that the very best methods are used in producing your finished project. Our Outsourcing Office has developed relationships with area vendors who provide a wide range of services, from large-run copying to full color printing. The latest offerings in large format printing, full color banners and posters, or other unique displays can also be contracted through the Outsourcing Office. We even handle your college business card!

Grad Track

Grad Track is a program designed to assist Valencia Community College students in making a smooth transition to University of Central Florida. We know that about 85% of our graduates continue their education at UCF, and we have set up Grad Track, in cooperation with UCF, to help them make the transfer as easily as possible.

An invitation to Grad Track is extended to all Valencia students who have completed 45 or more credits and who have not graduated. Students are invited to an evening of informative sessions designed to answer all their questions. Valencia staff explain graduation requirements, and UCF personnel provide information about financial aid, admissions, and program requirements.

Small group sessions led by UCF faculty from each major area are held, and a Valencia advisor is on hand for each group to assist student with selection of courses for their final semester at Valencia. Students then receive a priority registration time ticket for Spring Term Valencia classes before they leave campus.

The program has proven popular with students. Last fall, about 350 students participated in the two-evening event. This year's Grad Track event will take place as follows:

Date: Wednesday, November 9, 2005
Location: East Campus PAC Lobby
Time: Check in by 4:30

Date: Thursday, November 10, 2005
Location: West Campus HSB Lobby
Time: Check in by 4:30 P.M.

For more info, please visit valenciacc.edu/gradtrack.
