News from Procurement
Bidding Requirements- The College requires written quotes from 3
sources when purchasing goods or services between $3,500 - 24,999.
Any purchase over $25,000 is subject to a formal solicitation either
by an Invitation to Bid or Request for Proposal process coordinated
through the Procurement Office. Items or service under $3,500 only
require one written quote, however it is always better to 'shop
around' for the best price or value. Some suppliers add shipping
costs and other suppliers have great prices, but can not deliver the
item in a timely manner. Procurement can help you with quotes or
direct you to a preferred supplier.
Exceptions to the 3 bid requirement include: text books, library
books, educational tests, educational video tapes, TV production
services, software, items for resale, or any item/service that is on
State Contract or awarded a bid from another city/state/county
entity.
To view current Florida State Contracts, go to: http://www.state.fl.us/st_contracts/
State Contracts aren't always the lowest price, but convenient in an
emergency situation. The Procurement Department prefers to solicit
bids from local suppliers for competitive pricing. Any questions
related to the above information should be directed to our common
phone line, ext. 5532.

A Defining Moment for an Outstanding Valencia Student
This past spring one of Valencia's outstanding students, Colette
Mitchell-Ruff, was diagnosed with Renal Cancer. In March, Colette
was admitted into Florida Hospital to have a kidney removed and has
since recovered from surgery and has had multiple tests completed to
assess her health. Colette's cancer is now in remission and she is
doing remarkably well. Colette thanks everyone that has offered
support, "You sent cards, generous donations, warm wishes, or
visited and this all gives me the strength to fight as well as
appreciate life more. Thank you so much for keeping me in your
thoughts and prayers."
Colette's strength and determination through these difficult
times have proven to be a defining moment in her life. She graduated
from Valencia Community College this past May. Just prior to
graduation, she was offered a position as a senior designer with
Richmond.com, the premiere online portal in the greater Richmond,
Virginia area. The education and training she received while at
Valencia has better prepared her for the workforce allowing her to
hold a higher position than that of students from four year
institutions. Colette relocated in May and is doing exceptionally
well. We ask that you continue to keep her in your prayers for a
continued total remission of her cancer.
Thank You...
Thank you for the cards, flowers, and prayers during my stay at the
hospital and throughout my recovery at home. Your thoughtfulness and
continued words of encouragement will truly last forever.
-Gwen Davis
Thanks to my Valencia Family and friends for your prayers, kind
words, beautiful cards, flowers, and all acts of kindness shown
during the passing of my niece, Delores Y. Brown. I am grateful to
have such thoughtful people in my life. I love you all.
-Lois Riley
On behalf of my family, we would like to thank the Valencia Family
from the bottom of our hearts for your expressions of sympathy
during the passing of our mother, Henrietta Viola Porter. Your
generous contributions, toward the establishment of a scholarship
fund in honor of our mother, are heartfelt and treasured. Thank you
all for your support and outpouring of love.
- Sonja M. Boles-Melvin
It is difficult to find adequate words to express to you how much
your acts of love and sympathy supported me during the loss of my
Mom and my Mother #2. Because of your encouragement and continued
support, I gained much strength. May you continue to be wonderfully
blessed.
- Della Paul
Kudos
Dr. Stefani Koorey, professor of Humanities, Theatre, and
Film on West Campus, recently returned from Fall River,
Massachusetts where she was the invited speaker for the Summer
lecture series hosted by the Fall River Historical Society and the
First Congregational Church. She presented a lecture entitled "Show
& Tell: The Documentary Life of Lizzie Borden" to an overflow crowd
on August 3, the eve of the 113th anniversary of the unsolved
murders. This is the second year in a row that Koorey was invited to
speak on Lizzie Borden in Fall River. Koorey is the editor and
publisher of The Hatchet: Journal of Lizzie Borden Studies, and the
webmaster of LizzieAndrewBorden.com.
