Still Life Gives a Real Picture of War's Fallout
The Valencia Character Company will present Emily Mann's moving
docudrama, Still Life, on June 10-12 and 15-19, with curtain
times at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Still Life is based on a series of interviews conducted by
the author in 1978, shortly after the end of the Vietnam War.
Interviews of a soldier, his pregnant wife and an older female
friend reveal each one's perspective on war (specifically Vietnam,
though the parallels to Iraq are uncanny). The larger issues the
play poignantly examines are the affects of war on soldiers,
families and friends, and the warrior's struggle with values very
different from those at home.
General admission is $6. Seniors, students, and Valencia staff
and alumni are $5. The show will take place in the Black Box Theater
on the college's East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail in
Orlando. The play contains adult themes and language, and is not
suitable for children. For reservations or further information,
please call the box office at (407) 582-2900.
