What's New in the Internship and Placement Office

Completing an Internship just got easier. The number of contact hours required to complete an internship has been reduced from 135 to 80 contact hours per credit hour. For more information, refer students to the Internship and Placement Office on their campus: East-5-230; West-SSB-206; Osceola 1-263; and Winter Park 1-104. Open Enrollment begins November 1, 2004 through December 6, 2004.

Students earn credit for volunteering. Community Service is a new Service Learning course that allows students to blend their learning goals with their passions by volunteering. Students must be able to complete 50 contact hours per credit hour. For more information, refer students to the Internship and Placement Office on their campus. Open Enrollment begins November 1, 2004 through February 25, 2005.

Internships jumpstart student careers. Thirty-four percent or 57 of the 167 employers responding to our satisfaction survey stated they hired the student after the internship experience. An internship is still a powerful resume builder and an excellent way for students to jumpstart their career.

Purchasing From the Big Picture Perspective - Purchasing departments have a unique "seat above the playing field" that offers a view of the whole field and a total picture of the college's spending patterns and commitments for goods, services and construction. We are fortunate to be stewards of our institutions' resources. Purchasing professionals hold the expertise and skills required to ensure that contracts and commitments are made in an efficient and effective manner. Members of the purchasing staff interpret this big picture for their organization and add value to procurement activity where feasible, becoming active participants, by working hand-in-hand with our colleagues and providing consultation, review, and analysis to college contracting activity.

Please feel free to contact any of us for your purchasing and contracting needs. We are here to help you.
