Course Design: From Learning Outcomes to Assessment for TLA
Participants-Course design can be one of the most interesting
and challenging areas of a faculty member's work. Drawing from
research in the field, this session will focus on understanding the
characteristics of learning-centered course construction from

FrontPage Intermediate-Learn advance image editing
techniques, get control of tables and layouts, understand frames,

Oracle 11i Beginners Class-This two-day introductory class
(September 29 & 30) for the Oracle 11i online financial system is
offered to new employees and first time users of the Oracle 11i
financial software system. This two-day class includes instructions
on creating requisitions, looking at budgets, printing reports, and
general purchasing procedures. Wednesday, September 29 & 30, 8:30

Creating a Competency-based Portfolio for TLA Participants
(online)-This online workshop provides participants with an
overview of the elements of a Valencia Faculty Portfolio.
Participants also learn how to demonstrate learning through
artifacts. The face-to-face (September 30) orientation introduces
the participants to the online Scenarios system and to the portfolio
concept. The wrap-up (November 11) provides a face-to-face workshop
where participants can review actual portfolio artifacts. Essential
Competency Enhancement: All Essential Competencies are reinforced in
this course.

Path to Leadership-We continue our series of brown bag
lunches through this academic year with various Valencia leaders as
they share their own story about their Path to Leadership. Each
person's interpretation of leadership and their journey is unique.

Beginning Photoshop Elements 2.0-Learn how to enhance your
pictures using this Adobe Photo Editing Program. Topics covered in
this session will include: straightening scanned images, removing
red eye, correcting exposure problems, enlarging images, creating
panoramas, and creating slide shows. Discover how to organize photos
in the file browser which allows previewing, sorting, rotating, and

Business and Professional Business Speaking Series Sponsored by
AAWCC-Does the thought of giving a presentation to your
co-workers, supervisors or others cause you to break out in a cold
sweat? You are not alone! In this seminar, we will focus on
strategies for coping with communication anxiety, ways to organize
and support your message for maximum clarity and tips for delivery
that will energize your audience. Participants will create a
presentation during the workshop and are invited to present their
speech at our Speaker's Forum (to be held November 5, from 10
a.m.-noon at the PDC). Note: Sponsored by American Association for

Service Matters -This highly interactive workshop is designed
to leave participants motivated and confident to use proven
techniques for providing superior customer service. Topics include
positive attitude, customers' needs, what drives customers away, and

Scenarios: Succeeding in Online Group Work for Faculty-This
brand new course focuses on designing and facilitating group
projects in the online environment. By getting involved with the
storyline and characters, the readings, and the interaction with the
participants, faculty members should walk away with the skills,
attitudes and knowledge to plan and implement group activities. The
orientation session (October 1) and the wrap-up session (October 30)
are required. Faculty who successfully complete this course will
receive a stipend of $125. TWO DATES TO CHOOSE FROM:

have her poetry featured in the Fall 2004 Anthology of Contemporary
Poets, published by The New England Writers Association.
