News from Procurement
Procurement Services is pleased to announce a new exclusive
College-wide Promotional/Marketing Items contract between Valencia
Community College and American Ad Specialties. This contract was
awarded to American Ad as a result of a successful competitive
process in which several local area suppliers were invited to
participate. The selection criteria included; service, quality,
web-site access, flexibility, delivery plan, experience, and of
course, price.
Ordering will be made easy through our web-site (currently under
construction) but in the mean time, you can contact American Ad

American Ad, a Valencia alumnus!

Graphics and Imaging
Learn the basic computer graphics concepts everyone should know
and how to use images in Microsoft Office documents. Learn how to
draw with Office applications, how to save images, and how to get

Creating an Individualized Learning Plan for TLA Participants
This online workshop provides participants with an overview of
the seven Essential Competencies of a Valencia Educator.
Participants also learn how to create an effective Individualized
Learning Plan. The face-to-face orientation (September 10)
introduces the participants to the online Scenarios system. Class of
2007 faculty members who do not choose to take the online course,
will find this workshop essential to designing a productive ILP. The
online course wrap-up (October 8) provides a face-to-face workshop
of each candidate's ILP development. Friday, September 10, 2-5 p.m.,

Service Matters
This highly interactive workshop is designed to leave
participants motivated and confident to use proven techniques for
providing superior customer service. Topics include positive
attitude, customers' needs, what drives customers away, and what

FrontPage Introduction
This session will introduce the fundamentals of the Web, HTML,
and using FrontPage to create basic Web pages. Text and list

Retirement Planning Seminars- Your Options Under the FRS
Are you prepared for one of the most wonderful stages in life:
retirement? How close are you to those golden years? This three-part
seminar will begin with Your Options Under the Florida Retirement
System (FRS), an in-depth look at the State of Florida's retirement
system and options available. The second installment will feature a
representative from the Social Security Administration who will
discuss Social Security and Medicare in What to Expect from Social
Security. The third installment will feature Valencia's 401(a) and
Incentive Retirement Plans, which will cover various features of

Personality, Learning, & Thinking Styles for Richer Classrooms
for TLA Participants
Understanding one's own style can lead to a deeper meta-cognition
and an appreciation for diverse learning styles. The seminar will
provide information on available online personality, learning and
thinking styles inventories. Participants will be provided examples
of discipline-specific classroom assignments that facilitate this
understanding. Essential Competency Enhancement: Inclusion &
Diversity, Core Competencies (TVCA), L-C Teaching Strategies.

Painless Procurement
Learn how to make your job easier by 'tips and tricks' from the
Procurement Department. Topics will include Oracle, the Procurement
website, negotiated agreements with preferred suppliers, and P-Card

Kudos
Diane Ashe, Professor of Psychology, West Campus, recently
coauthored a book entitled, "Celebrity worshippers: Inside the minds
of stargazers." It is available through PublishAmerica.com and major
bookstores.
The fourth edition of "Adventures in the Human Spirit," by Philip
E. Bishop, Professor of Humanities, East Campus, has been
published by Prentice Hall. Professor Bishop recently gave a
workshop for Cornell Fine Arts Museum on writing about art, based on
his book, "Beginner's Guide to the Humanities."
