New Valencia Marketing Campaign Launches July 9

On July 9, watch for Valencia 's new marketing campaign to hit television, radio, Internet and print publications. The new campaign replaces Valencia 's former ads produced in 2002 that featured Valencia students and focused on "Programs for Whatever You're Into."

Campaign Goals
As in the past, the marketing campaign will serve two purposes: to establish the Valencia brand within the marketplace, and to generate new applications and support the return of current students, enabling us to meet our enrollment goals.

Underlying Message Endures
Special thanks go to the Marketing Advisory Committee members (see list below) who have worked with the Marketing and Media Relations Department to make sure that the new campaign represents Valencia's values, reflects our learning-centered approach, and is driven by research with students and prospective students. Also, key messages will continue to emphasize quality, convenience, value and transferability. Since those aspects remain the same, what will change?

An Exciting New Look and Feel, Based on Research
You will see an entirely new campaign, rooted in substantial research with current and prospective students.

Called "Education Is In," the new campaign is inspired by style and humanizes the breadth of Valencia 's programs through the use of key elements found in the world of fashion, including individuality, quality and confidence. Valencia takes on the role of a high quality designer who helps students tailor their own futures.

Television spots feature runway shows rolling out Valencia's "seasonal" collections (Fall, Spring, or Summer for use year-round) represented by 12 courses of study (including both AA and AS programs targeted in the Enrollment Plan). These courses of study are humanized through highly stylized attire. Print, radio and Internet ads will reinforce the key message.

The campaign's main theme puts the college's core audience (prospective students 18-24) at Valencia 's higher education design table, communicating the message that Valencia partners with students to empower each person to improve their life. Previews of the ads with focus groups of 18-24 year olds resulted in strongly positive feedback and helped to refine the concepts. The ads promise to communicate the message effectively to that core audience.

New Creative Use of the Web to Connect With Prospective Students
The campaign debuts a new companion Web site. It is important to note that the new site does not replace the college's main Web site. In fact, it helps to stream applicants directly to the existing www.valenciacc.edu site.

The new Web site may be found at www.EducationIsIn.com, and all of the ads in the campaign will direct prospective students to visit that site. The site provides broad overview information on Valencia 's features and benefits; enables prospective students to provide information that helps us to serve them; helps students to establish a personal connection to the college from the start; and helps each visitor to arrive at exactly the information that they need within the college's .edu site.

Want to See a Preview?
Can't wait to see the new ads? You can see a quick preview of the creative process that produced the new campaign, ending with one of the new television spots at: www.EducationIsIn.com/press/

Campaign is Within Budget
The team has been very budget conscious. Creatively involving Valencia 's own Marketing and Media Relations staff with that of the ad agency enabled us to realize substantial savings in the costs of the campaign. In fact, the creation of the new campaign and the media purchases are budgeted at the same amount as the 06-07 media purchase.

Don't be surprised if you think the campaign looks very "high end" in its production values. It is. But we managed to achieve that within a budget that is level with last year's expenditures.

New Campaign is Essential Component of the Strategic Marketing Plan
The new campaign is a central component of our new strategic marketing plan that provides a marketing communication roadmap for the college, serving as the foundation for annual communication objectives, strategies and tactics aimed at helping to achieve the enrollment plan's goals. More information about the Strategic Marketing Plan will be shared in future issues of the Bulletin .

Procurement News

Purchasing Card FAQ:

Q: Why should I use the Valencia P-Card?

A: Using the P-Card ( Valencia 's Master Card) saves you time by eliminating the need to complete supplier profiles, W-9 forms and having to use personal funds for college business. The P-Card is a very efficient method of procuring small dollar and routine transactions, involves less processing time and paperwork, and most suppliers gladly accept a credit card because they get paid faster. Visit the Procurement website for more information: http://www.valenciacc.edu/procurement / ProcurementCard.asp. Order your card today!!!

Toner Cartridge Scams

Beware of solicitors who call and want to send you toner cartridges. This is usually a scam. The college has contracts with all of our copier vendors which include supplying toner cartridges for the copiers. Printer toner is ordered, when needed, by departments through the Procurement Web site. We rotate the orders among several local developing companies.

Finance Banner Manuals

The most updated version of the Finance Banner Manual, along with shortcut keys, vendors and VID numbers, crosswalk of Oracle accounts to Banner accounts, etc. can be found on the Atlas Web site. Sign on to Atlas, go to the Finance tab, and under Faculty & Staff Support, Atlas & Banner Training for Staff, you will find several documents to download.

Food Services

Extra, extra, read all about it...New catering information is now available on the Web at: http://www.valenciacc.edu/procurement/FoodServices.asp

Important Human Resource Information For all 10-Month Faculty

There are 26 pay periods in the academic year 2007-2008. All 10-month faculty have the option of having their base salary disbursed in 22 payments over ten months, based on academic appointment, or in 26 payments over twelve months. Once the first payroll for the academic year is processed, this option cannot be changed until the next academic year .

Human Resources has revised the way we communicate the opportunity for faculty to change their salary payment option for the coming academic year. We will post a notice, similar this one, in the Bulletin but faculty will no longer receive a mailing at their home address regarding this subject. This change will improve efficiency, save postage and trees, and reduce the number of unsolicited offerings received by mail.

All 10-month faculty will continue to have the June/July window to revise their salary payment option for the coming academic year. Faculty who wish to make a change will be required to complete a form, available online at the HR Web site, and submit it to Human Resources no later than July 31. Changes are then effective for the first payday in the new academic year.

Please contact Vicki Nelson at ext.8031 if you have any questions.

An Important Hurricane Message From Administrative Services

Florida 's hurricane season began last month and will last through November 30. We want to remind you about our hurricane policies and procedures and to ask you to join us in preparing for the 2007 hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center warns that some part of Florida typically is threatened by a hurricane or tropical storm each year and provides information about hurricanes and other severe weather on its Web site at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ . During any threatening weather and hurricane season, the college monitors this site and notifies others as necessary.

If a serious storm or hurricane threatens our region, we may decide to cancel classes or close campuses. If we do cancel classes or close the college, we will place information on the college's Web site and disseminate details to local television and radio outlets. We also provide additional information and other preparedness links on our Web site to better assist you.

When a serious situation arises, we will strive to provide adequate warning to all students, faculty and staff. As in the past, we will use the West Campus Security Office as our Emergency Operations Center to coordinate mission critical services.

We encourage everyone to begin preparation now so that you will be ready if the need arises. We have taken the first step for you by providing the following Web links:
