Upcoming Deadline for Part-Time Time Sheets
Due to the upcoming spring break, all part-time time sheets for the
period of 02/19/06-03/04/06 need to be in the payroll department no
later than Tuesday, March 7. It is imperative that the payroll
department receives all time sheets by this due date. Please exert
every effort to comply with this deadline to ensure that all of our
part-time staff are paid on time for the pay date that falls during
spring break.
Time sheets received after March 7, for whatever reason, will be
paid on the April 7 payroll. Thank you for your cooperation.
News from Marketing and Media Relations and Creative Design
Studios
Again this year, the Marketing and Media Relations department is
setting a deadline for the submission of design requests for
projects that must be delivered prior to June 30, 2006 and be paid
for in the current college budget year. This year's deadline will be
April 14.
This deadline applies to project requests that require design,
consultation, copywriting or photography and require the use of an
outside vendor. Although the department staff will make every effort
to accommodate emergencies, we cannot guarantee that requests
received after April 14 will be designed, processed, delivered and
invoiced prior to the June 30 budget deadline.
Requests for reprints or reprints with minor corrections to be paid
for with current budget dollars will be accepted until May 31.
Please note also that these deadlines do not apply to requests for
event photography, although we do request that you allow adequate
time for scheduling.
Request forms are available online at http://valenciacc.edu/printingservices,
or you may contact Grace Rosales at ext. 1779, and she will send you
a supply.
We will log in requests in the order they are received and set up
assignments accordingly. If you are unsure about how to proceed,
just indicate on your request that you would like to have a
consultation first and Steve Webb will set up a time to speak with
you to iron out those details.
Please share this information with anyone in your area to whom this
may pertain and please don't hesitate to contact Steve Webb at
ext.1393 or Mike Malloy at ext.1094 if you have any questions or
concerns about the deadlines. The department staff looks forward to
working with you!
Academic Regalia
Don't forget to order your academic regalia for commencement.
Valencia will pay for your regalia if ordered by March 10, 2006.
Payment for regalia orders received after March 10 will be the
direct responsibility of the employee. Orders are to be made in the
campus business offices, where last year's orders are on hand for
your reference, at the following locations:
East Campus - building 5, room 214
Osceola Campus - building 1, room 155
West Campus - Student Services Building, room 101
Winter Park Campus - room 206
Downtown Center - contact Patty Nicholas, ext. 3465
News from Procurement
Getting junk faxes? At the bottom of the received fax there is
usually a fax number or phone number that you can use to stop
receiving those annoying faxes. Take advantage of the number to end
the waste of paper and toner. It may take a few tries but don't give
up, it works!
With spring break fast approaching, the procurement department is
notifying our vendors that the college will be closed during the
week of March 13 and that they should not attempt to make any
deliveries.
Procurement card update - please do not use your procurement card to
register for any conferences managed by Valencia's Conferences &
Meeting Planning Services (CMPS). This type of transaction can be
accomplished by sending a copy of the registration form, along with
a general requisition to Conference Management, mail code DTC-1.
Using the P-card results in Valencia paying a merchant processing
fee when the same end result can be accomplished with an easy
accounting transaction. Please contact Chara Allen, ext. 3205, or
Christine Kretchik, ext. 3304, with any questions on this procedure.
Energy Wise (a column created by the energy team)
Now more than ever it has become necessary for the Valencia family
to consciously support the energy conservation initiative of the
college. With the rise in cost and usage, Valencia is challenged to
continue its adoption of a number of energy conservation ideas. Our
very first article appealed to the collaboration of faculty/staff
and emphasized the need for this group to assist the energy team in
conserving electricity by turning off lights in unused spaces.
With the sustained rise in fuel costs and the increased demand for
this commodity, Valencia needs to continue the practice of turning
lights off in unoccupied areas. This is one of the most significant
practices that can be undertaken by all stakeholders to assist the
college in reducing the cost of energy. Thank you for assisting us.
Energy Myth: Fluorescent lights should only be switched on
once or twice a day to avoid power surges and drastically reduced
lamp life.
Energy Fact: Neither is true. Start up surges last only a few
milliseconds and do not impact cost. Lamp life reduction is minor
and offset after a few minutes of "off" time. Two lamps costing $5
use $60 of energy over their life. With today's lighting equipment,
it is best to turn off lights anytime an area is unoccupied (EWEB
Energy Management Services).

Kudos
Congratulations to Stanley Stone, vice president for Human
Resources and Diversity, for receiving the Excellence in Education
award at the 4th Annual Black History Month Banquet & Celebration
held on February 18 at the Rosen Centre. The event was sponsored by
the Black History Committee of Orange County whose theme is "Tough
Love for Today's Youth". Winners of the award receive $10,000 in
scholarship money for their institutions. We are extremely proud of
Dr. Stone's involvement in the community and in the educational
process through his years of service at Valencia.
For the 3rd year in a row, a Valencia Graphics technology student
took the Best of Student award at the local ADDY awards held
recently at Universal Studios. In the other student category, eight
of the twelve students receiving awards were Valencia students. Not
included in those statistics were two UCF students who also won
awards and have been taking courses in Valenica's Graphics program.
Kevin Scarbourough won the Best of Student award. The other
awards went to Hachem Hosenbux, Phyllis Hanson, Vincent Pileggi,
Garrett Burtoft, Kenneth Roy, Nicholas Melton and Stephan
Telesford. UCF/Valencia students were Ever Gonzalez and
Gong Liu. Congratulations to these students who, because of
their award-winning work, will advance to the regional and national
ADDY levels.
