Strategic Budget Initiative
Each year Valencia sets aside funds for the development of
innovative learning projects at the college. These funds, called
strategic budget initiatives, provide support for successful trial
projects that may be scaled to reach large numbers of students.
Projects can include curricular and/or co-curricular components and
should be scalable to department, campus or college-wide
populations.
Strategic budget initiatives are required to advance progress on
one or more of the goals of the strategic learning plan (SLP),
particularly the priority action items. Proposals should also show
evidence of prior success, either at Valencia or elsewhere.
The deadline for proposal abstracts is Friday, February 24, 2006.
Documents, guidelines, and a detailed presentation on preparing
strategic budget initiative proposals are available on the Valencia
budget web page,
http://www.valenciacc.edu/budget/.
For more information on the SBI process, please contact Dave Rogers,
x3223 or drogers@valenciacc.edu. For questions on the writing style
of the proposal, please contact Liz Gombash, x2909 or lgombash@valenciacc.edu.
Valencia Foundation Scholarship News
A long-time friend of Valencia's, Paul Harding, recently passed away
but his legacy will live on. The Paul and Audrey Harding scholarship
was originally established as a gift from their children for the
Harding's 50th wedding anniversary. Through the most recent gifts
from friends and family, $6,000 was added to the fund, and the
Foundation will automatically apply for a 100 percent state match.
Dr. Harding enjoyed a long career in radiology, xray, nuclear
medicine and radiation therapy at Orange Memorial Hospital, now
known as ORMC. A founding member of Medical Center Radiology Group,
he also taught at Valencia. Known for his extraordinary bedside
manner, he truly cared not only about his patients, but his family
and community as well.
We will miss Dr. Harding but his contributions to Valencia Community
College and Central Florida will continue.
Alumni News
The March 1 Alumni Board of Directors meeting, originally scheduled
in building 3, room 113 on the East Campus, will be held in room 209
of the Criminal Justice Institute, 8600 Valencia College Lane.
News from Procurement
Online ordering for Office Depot is for GL codes 655010 or 655020
ONLY. For GL's in the 700 series, please create an Oracle
requisition.
Before ordering any software please contact OIT at ext. 5555. They
may already have the software and license. This could provide
savings for your department.
When completing a paper requisition, the supplier name should be as
it is listed in the Oracle database. Check with Procurement to
search for any vendor in Oracle. A company is listed by its federal
identification number supplied by the IRS. If the vendor is not in
Oracle then a vendor business profile and signed W-9 form need to be
completed BY THE VENDOR and sent to Procurement for processing.
Since the W-9 form is signed by the supplier, it is back-up to
information required by the IRS. Refer all potential suppliers to
our Website for instructions and forms:
A reminder that, per college policy 6Hx28:07-26, Code of Ethics for
Public Employees, employees can NOT be hired as consultants or 1099
suppliers.
Twins have arrived! Congratulations to our very own Aida Gonzalez
and husband Enoc, who are the proud parents of twins, Enoc Jr. and
Keisha Enid, born February 10, 2006. They join the Gonzalez family
of Keren, age 6 and Keyla, age 2. Best of luck to all!
