Procurement has been given approval to develop a competitive
solicitation (Request for Proposals, RFP) for campus-wide food and
vending concessions services. It is prudent for a public institution
to competitively bid its major contracts as the current agreements
reach their maturity. The competitive process ensures that the
institution will be able to take advantage of the latest and
greatest that the food service industry has to offer.
Realizing how important campus food and vending services are to the
faculty, staff and students, the administration has given
Procurement permission to seek and hire a professional food
consultant to assist the college with this process. After extensive
research and consultation with some of our community college peers
(specifically Broward CC and Florida CC at Jacksonville) and other
universities, the decision was made to hire the Cornyn Fasano Group
(CFG) from Portland, Oregon. CFG has helped numerous colleges,
universities and other businesses and industry to implement
successful food and vending concession programs. Our consultant is
Mr. John Cornyn, a co-owner of the group. Please visit their web
site for a complete list of clients, references, and profile
information:
http://www.cornyn-fasano.com/main.html.
Ed Ames, Valencia's procurement director, and Mr. Cornyn have
completed an initial visit to all campuses and spoken with student
groups on each campus, pertaining to food services. Mr. Cornyn was
able to gain an understanding of the Valencia Community College
campus communities and how food service interrelates to the overall
campus academic and social mission. The results of this process were
used to frame a web survey and portions of the request for proposal
document (RFP).
In order to compose an RFP that will result in a food service
contract that best meets the needs of our multiple campuses and
diverse population, we are asking for your input, suggestions and
recommendations. To help us accomplish this task we are implementing
two strategic initiatives. The first initiative is a survey document
for faculty/staff and a separate one for students. The survey
document for faculty and staff may be found atwww.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=280521746133
Please take a few moments to complete this survey if you have not
already done so.
For those of you that work with students, the student survey may be
found at
www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=303471741372. The information that we collect from this survey will play a
vital role in selecting a food service provider that will best meet
the needs of the college.
The second initiative is to form an RFP evaluation team composed of
students, faculty and staff. The heads of the appropriate counsels
will be requested to recommend potential committee members. To keep
the committee to a reasonable size we will be asking for two members
from each counsel to assist in the process. We will also be working
with Student Government to obtain representation. Since students are
by far the biggest users of the college's food services, we hope to
get a number of them involved in the process. This should provide us
with a very representative, yet manageable committee with possibly
12 to 14 members. The members of the respective groups will provide
feedback and bring forth recommendations from their constituents
during the process. Please know that there will be ample
opportunities for feedback during the entire RFP process. Some of
theses include the web survey mentioned above, the pre-submission
conference and supplier presentations to the college before award.
Please share this information with all of your staff and students
and encourage everyone to complete the survey document.

News from Human Resources
New address or phone number? If you recently moved or have a new
address or phone number, you'll need to be sure Human Resources
knows about the change. A Change of Address form is available on the
college website or you can request one by calling extension 8033. HR
will also accept an address/phone number change from an employee via
e-mail. Call HR to find out who to send the e-mail to and what other
information might be needed.
Attention supervisors! If you supervise work study students or
part-time hourly employees, please remind them to notify Human
Resources when they move or get a new phone number. This will
prevent pay checks, direct deposit stubs, W-2 forms, etc. from being
returned, undeliverable, by the post office.
Submissions to the Bulletin are encouraged, so please e-mail your
achievements, awards, recognitions, and relevant information for the
college community to Mary Jane Jones, Staff Assistant in Marketing
