News from Procurement
Problems or issues with vendors can range from poor or inefficient
service to incorrect invoicing. The only way Procurement can track
a vendor’s performance is by you helping us to document such
occurrences. A new form has been added to our Web page to report
unsatisfactory materials or service from a vendor. The form can
be found at http://valenciacc.edu/ procurement/facultystaff.asp.
The college currently owns or leases 150 copiers at its different
campus locations. Many of these machines are aging and will need
replacement. Departmental copiers are designed for everyday copying
needs, while the copy centers and FedEx Kinko’s are equipped
with high speed, large volume copiers to handle production line
type printing. It is also cost effective and more efficient to use
the copy center and FedEx Kinko’s for your printing needs
and both are excellent in their response to quick turn-a-round jobs.
Sending large copy jobs out will also help preserve the departmental
copiers for longer life use. Copy centers can be found on the West,
East and Osceola Campuses. FedEx Kinko’s jobs can be directed
to prc3995@fedexkindos.com.
All copy centers now have color copying available!!
Achieving the Dream (AtD) Supplemental Learning (SL)
Update August 2006
Supplemental Learning (SL) is a peer mentor program that provides
students enrolled in a specific course with a role model student
(the SL leader) who has already demonstrated a success in that course.
The SL Leader shares study techniques and strategies that were used
to be successful with the course in a previous term.
The Supplemental Learning Team looks forward to the coming academic
year and is excited to announce that we will be offering a total
of 62 courses with a supplemental learning component for fall 2006.
Still not sure what supplemental learning is? Want to know how you
can get involved with supplemental learning? Contact the supplemental
learning coordinator on your campus:
• East Campus - Libby Gore, ext. 2385
• Osceola Campus - Al Groccia, ext. 4182
• West Campus - Russell Takashima, ext. 1724
• Winter Park Campus - Linda Hidek, ext. 6817
Achieving the Dream (AtD) Learning in Community (LinC)
Update August 2006
This summer, teams of faculty and student affairs professionals
have designed nine Learning-in-Community (LinC) courses integrating
student success and preparatory mathematics courses. During Destination
2006, the teams designed joint syllabi and integrate curriculum
topics around debt, credit and other practical applications. Student
affairs success coaches (counselor or advisor) have been full partners
in course design and are planning a program of early attention to
help students succeed early in the semester. As part of the Achieving
the Dream plan, Valencia expects to enroll 200 students in LinC
courses in the fall and spring terms.
Contact Philip Bishop, ext. 2297, for additional information.

Kudos
Please join the east campus staff council in saying thank you to
Debi Jakubcin for her years of service to both
the east campus and collegewide staff council. Debi was an active
member of the staff council from its inception and worked extremely
hard to develop and enhance staff council on both the campus and
collegewide levels. She served on countless committees, worked long
hours, and dedicated herself to the interests of career staff employees.
She will be greatly missed as she now joins the ranks of professional
staff. We really appreciate all of her hard work.
In July, the east campus staff council awarded a grapevine award
to Derrick Hilton. With a smile on his face, Derrick
consistently delivers exceptional customer service to faculty, staff,
students and visitors. Recently he went beyond the call of duty
during a tremendous summer storm to put air in a flat tire. His
supervisor also stated that she constantly receives e-mails from
staff and students stating what a great help Derrick was to them.
GREAT JOB!
A Warm Valencia Welcome to
• Erica Jones, bookkeeper, Valencia Foundation,

• Debra McKibben, staff assistant, Criminal
Justice Institute, mc 3-9, ext. 8216
Thank you
My words of appreciation go to my Valencia family. Your prayers,
thoughts, messages and gifts of expression during the passing of
my mother, have been of a tremendous comfort and healing for all
of us.
