Good News From Finance!

All travel forms have been updated with the current rate on Valencia’s Web site. Chapter 2006-41, Laws of Florida, amended the rates of per diem and subsistence allowance and the mileage allowance specified in Section 112.061 (6) and (7) effective July 1, 2006.

Following are the rates and how to calculate them:

• Per Diem - $80
• Breakfast - $6
• Lunch - $11
• Dinner - $19
• Mileage - $0.445 per mile

Travelers must calculate out to the third decimal point and round down to the nearest cent when calculating the allowable amount for mileage. Example: 15 miles at $0.445 would calculate out to $6.675 and the amount to be paid to the traveler would be $6.67.

News From Procurement

Need a new Valencia name tag? Lose another one again? Ordering is easy! Go to valenciacc.edu/procurement/ facultystaff.asp and click on the “name tags” link to fill out the necessary fields. We will create the purchase order, notify the supplier and your new name tag will be delivered to you in 3-5 business days. The cost is $6.50 each and includes shipping.

In an earlier issue of the Bulletin we mentioned that P-Cards would soon be accepted at all the campus bookstores. Everything is in place and you can now use your P-Card at all locations. Remember you must have adequate funds in the general ledger code being used for your purchases.

The college is governed by Florida statutes and college policy. This means that we have rules and guidelines to follow. Valencia’s college policy is listed on Procurement’s Web site, and Florida statues can be found at http://www.leg.state.fl.us/ Statutes/. The state also has state contracts that can be used to purchase certain services or commodities without going through the formal bid process. A list of current state
contracts can be found at http://www.state. fl.us/st_contracts/. State contracts are not always the lowest price, but convenient in an emergency situation. The Procurement office prefers to solicit bids from local suppliers for competitive pricing. Please call Procurement at ext. 5532 should you have any questions regarding this process.

We have a new face in the Procurement office. Please join us in welcoming Susan Ioder, purchasing agent. She comes to us with many years of experience in purchasing, including the City of Ocoee and Orange County. You can reach Susan at ext. 5542 or by e-mail at sioder@valenciacc.edu.

Food Services has a new catering phone number and FAX number. The Food Court offices on each campus have not changed. Catering is 407-376-7522 and the FAX number is 407-296-9291.

A Push for Pencils and Buy Them Tax Free!

Valencia Community College is working this fall to help A Gift for Teaching give needy students in our community the chance to succeed by giving them basic tools for learning, whether it’s a book, backpack, pencil or pen. Even though life isn’t always fair, there is a way to make life fairer for these kids. Join us and support A Gift for Teaching by donating new school supplies so that no child has to show up empty handed.

Coordinated by the Collegewide Staff Council, the second annual A Gift for Teaching’s supply drive “Push for Pencils” will run September 1-30. The drive will be a collegewide endeavor drawing sponsorship and participation from AAWCC, Faculty Association, SCA, PTK, Professional Staff Council, Valencia Volunteers, Alumni Association, Student Development and the Valencia Community College Bookstore.
A great time to purchase items for the supply drive is now when you are shopping for back-to-school supplies for your own children or grandchildren. July 22-30 marks the 2006 sales tax holiday for
back-to-school supplies and clothing. The sales tax exemption applies to each eligible book or item of clothing selling for $50 or less, and each eligible school supply selling for $10 or less. Let your heart rule your generosity.
For more information about A Gift for Teaching, please visit their Web site at www.agiftforteaching.org. For more information about the “Push for Pencils” supply drive, contact Priscilla Gray at pgray@valenciacc.edu or call ext. 6816.
