The Valencia Conference on Legal Issues in Community Colleges will
offer front line leaders valuable information exclusively focused on
community colleges. Dr. Mullowney added that many noted legal
experts have committed to presenting at the conference, and Dr.
Fiona Baxter, director of College and Community Relations, further
explained that this conference has resulted in the first
diamond-level sponsorship ($10,000) for a Valencia conference.
State PECO funds are larger than anticipated, therefore the state
has moved up projects originally scheduled for future years. Dr.
Mullowney explained that $12 million in Valencia projects dealing
with the Southwest Campus property, the signature building on West
Campus, and various renovation and remodeling projects will be
addressed.
Dr. Shugart introduced Dr. Joyce Romano, vice president for Student
Affairs, who provided a progress update for Valencia's Achieving the
Dream initiative.
The joint regional strategy involving UCF, Valencia and three other
local community colleges will be publicly announced this spring.
Valencia's deal to lease excess bandwidth has been approved by the

Career Staff Council News
I want to extend a great big THANK YOU to Debi Jakubcin for her
leadership as the Collegewide Staff Council Chair for the past two
years. Debi has led the council to new heights and has been a true
advocate for career staff. Thank you for your time, effort and
guidance.
As the new chair, I want to encourage all career staff to
participate in their individual campus councils. These councils are
your voice into various governing councils and to college
leadership. The councils provide opportunities for staff
development, community outreach activities, plus much more.
Please feel free to call (x.2821) or e-mail me with any concerns or
suggestions for the council. I look forward to serving you.

News from Human Resources
New address or phone number? If you recently moved or have a new
address or phone number, you'll need to be sure Human Resources
knows about the change. A Change of Address form is available on the
college website or you can request one by calling extension 8033. HR
will also accept an address/phone number
change from an employee via e-mail. Call HR to find out who to send
the e-mail to and what other information might be needed.
Attention Supervisors! If you supervise work study students or
part-time hourly employees, please remind them to notify Human
Resources when they move or get a new phone number. This will
prevent pay checks, direct deposit stubs, W-2 forms, etc. from being
returned, undeliverable, by the post office.
